well here we go .....
computer:
win 2000 professional

echo gina 24/96 soundcard
hardware:
nord lead 2...
behringer 1804mx 14/16 channel
sennheiser eh2270
mixer with 32 efx...
jackson atx electric guitar...
boss gt-5 efx processor...
5 boss effects units...
technics amp and monitors(on loan from a mate-god bless him - till june 31-then i get my tax return & get some lovely monitors and a efx rack for the nord.....)
software:
cubase 5.1 vst
reason 1.1
wavelab-soundforge
hyperion stomper - how basic but effective..
rebirth for some 303 squelch
and shitloads of vst's

of course u can make things with software...
guys the computers today can act like a good sound machine with their prcessors.
when i got into music creation i bought only pulsar card with keyboard and its was nice.
but u cant compare the fill of hardware
there is something different with the touch - its real....
look at my gear today ... both software and hardware...

i don't completely agree with optimistique, but:

| revolution ?!?!
what new thing brought the Software thing into music creation that hardware did not have ?
multitrack midi sequencing - it was and is,
real time effects - it was and is,
audio sampling - it was and is.
only cheaper. the VST stands for "virtual studio technology" ... this means it immitates hardware. what's a revolution in immitation ?
well if u see and compare the quality of music created by people with gear you will notice a big difference - there's a big gap beween melody drawn by mouse and a melody played on a midi keyboard, and i skip the sound engineering issue [which is not on software's side]
about the talent...
who is talented, famous and makes music in software only (not as escape - cause ther's no $$$,and i don't mean artists who made 1-2 tracks with Reason).. ?!?! well ?

... what this has to do with the talent, i mean whats its connection to the discussion ?
just new words lately learnt ?
guys keep it kool - don't fight, if u bring up an opponent point of view, please forcify it with arguments and fact, not just contradict the other side.
plur.

what ever you make with hardware you can do today with only a pc.
thats a fact.
many big artists left all the stuff behind and working with only the pc.
take cedric for example.
and i know the sesto sento guys work with only pc.
and most ppl here too....
SMILE ! and the whole world will smile right back at you ! |

100% True !
it's always better to compress the sound before the AD conversion . |

bilbo - the revolution in it is that it's on a computer running software.
prosect - software usually cost alot too...
tdme - why would u replace the delta66? just buy the Luna II as an add-on.
But of course hardware stuff still sound a bit better for me - it depends on the listener - who likes that sound and who likes this sound.

Holy Mackerel I am moving into the Weirdo Beardo studio right now! My bags are packed!!!!
My studio is currently:
Synths:
Virus C (desktop version)
Waldorf Pulse
FX / processing:
Behringer intelligate
Alesis midiverb 4
Other stuff:
Alesis m1 actives
soundcraft 16 channel desk
Computer stuff:
Athlon 2000+ w. Delta 66 card
Windows XP
Software:
I use Orion as sequencer and VSTi host
for historical reasons.....
Tons of plugins, current favourites:
vb-1,
tau pro (I bought it! i must be the only one!)
'synth1' (amazing for free!)
absynth, kontakt, ...
WNM-1 (does what it says on the box)
Drumatic (so many great free plugins these days, hoorah!)
+ loads of others
But these days I only use the Virus (which i use heavily) and the plugins. The Pulse is sitting there unused. Maybe it's time to try it again....i mean that true-analogue filter must be worth a go.
