hum... i guess they'r one of electronic's grandparents...
they've made really good music on the early 90's and still do some curious tracks.
just for that... i still love them |

I know I'm gonna get flamed for this, but I got two Euro-trance Depeche Mode mix singles that is ... really ... good

Throw them to the bin and listen to John Lord Fonda's remix of Personal Jesus.. One of these few only that fit in "my" definition of a proper remix.

never really understood what people find
so attractive in depeche mode's music.
ok, i must admit they've got one good track "enjoy the silence". cool video too
but: how can you enjoy the silence while you're listening to it?

I used to really like Depeche Mode when they first started but then they went all pretentious and gothy... and i lost interest.
Am i the only one who believes in solipsism? |

I will see them Live two days from now...have some mixed feelings about it.
Don´t get me wrong i think DM have worked really hard to get through 20 years of music pionnering, but the new album is just kind of average music with Gahan´s voice put on top.
I like their previous work much more and i hope that they give more emphasis on old music than the new stuff.
Check out the 3 cd release with 20 years of DM RMX´s by artists like Dj Shadow, William Orbit, Timo Maas or even Linkin Park out late 2004...
Now that would really be something if played live...
Anyway, thursday i´ll know if it was worth the 5 month wait since i bought the ticket...

Hello...
Brief review of the DM gig last night...
It could have been a whole lot better !!!!
The place was almost full and they had a big stage with 4 screens, where they played the visuals (some good footage there), but due to the size of the place it looked like it was somewhat empty (a few more screens could have been added...and maybe some lighting effects too).
Like it was expected the emphasis was given on promoting the last album, so they started out in a very energetic way with the opening track of the recent album and the attitude was more of a rock band than ever.
Gahan disapeared for 20 min backstage after only 3 trax, wich was odd at least !!!!
I guess that getting older does seem to affect everyone.
Some( a lot ) of the "classic" stuff was cut out...Soundwise the vocals were mufling everything else...i guess it was just too loud, you could feel more raw energy flying of the speakers when there was only instrumental, so instead of complementing the atmosphere the vocals just overtopped everything.
"Enjoy the silence" closed the performance, and as you might expect it was the climax of the show...they came back to make a couple of encore...slowly drifting to the end, but without really addind more to what they had done before, I remember Gahan screaming tho the audience "SING IT"...and the audience going numb...not a sound coming from there!!!!
Despite all it was still great fun to see them play, for the die hard fans it was a blast,it was worth the money... they´ll come back in July but i don´t think i´ll be there again.
cheers |
