Well I'm a bit biased cuz I have loved Mark's work from the first time I've heard his music.
I find this album as a masterpiece (my hebrew review on it: http://www.106fm.co.il/#post/3850/) I will however repeat some of the stuff I wrote and emphasis my opinion on this album and concept:
Regardless to the genre that Mark does that surly creates an antagonism to some Trancer's who dont like it's darkish influences, this album could be considered as the first direct political Trance album.
I find Mark an artists in all the meaning of the word (to me) who actually has something to say, it doesnt matter if you agree or not or even partially, the bottom line is there is a concept thoroughly thought through, from the design, to the sections of the tracks to the intense lyrics which were all in the Punk culture method of DIY.
I'm aware of the fact that Electronic music and Trance in particular has taken it's music apart from politics an in fact by intentionally not taking part of it, it creates a political message of discontent of the current situation. However I feel that alongside the evolution of artists, taking out the lyrics and some depth thoughts of some sort of a concept and an idea artists want to pass to their audience the music started to be more of the same. It's ironic that one of the most alternative culture and music has nothing to say about anything, and yet the ideals and lifestyles a lot of the Trance scene members have chosen are far from not being political, no matter how you interpret politics.
It's so refreshing to finally hear a coherent idea and message, again it doesnt matter imo if you agree or not, the main issue is that this is one of the first attempts to directly point on matters which troubles us all, or at least some. You can see it in the story that Mark always builds in his music, and in the track that he released for free in his website - 911 Inside Job.

The DIY method and the total un commercialism approach of Mark has made this album even more unique in my eyes and it is standing out from all of todays Trance music which basically emphasizes as it has been from the beginning hedonism and escapism.
It will be unfair and incorrect to start comparing Rock/Hip-Hop artists to Electronic artists but it seems like in all genres our generation doest seek to have a clear and strong opinion about the reality they live in. Having no words surly creates a problem in passing on a coherent message but nevertheless there is usually little thought of constructing an album as a whole, as a theory, protest or as an idea (can also be about the environments, gender problems, animal rights, and soon) and not just put some flashy colors and meaningless names. This is what I personally like about this album, which was very missing to me in the past few years.

I hope more artists will follow this way, but again it's a matter of taste.

Usually i do not partake in forum discussions,
but i want to clear up a few things concerning the
last album.
The conception of the album has been laid out in early 2004,
it took about 3 years to complete it, due to the different approach to
inspiration and information gathering.
It has never claimed to be a new concept, on the contrary, its message
demands many other similar concepts to spread the information more effectively.

And whoever says that i simply quoted "Zeitgeist" (which is a great movie BTW)
is mistaken, that movie was released in 2007, when the album was already
in the final stages.
This is probably due to the obviously popular lack of understanding that the
inception of ideas
for a particular album predates the release date of that album by many months or years.

It has amused me ever since i release music how people tend to project their
prejudices or even their own habbits (copy/paste and so forth) onto the xenomorph project.
First Xenomorph was a satanist, animal sacrificer, KKK member, fascist, unspiritual,
now he is paranoid,a "conspiracy theorist" (whatever that is lol) or Noam Chomsky reader.
One can't live without having a "tag" for everything in life, to put it into a drawer,
then everything is in order with no need to look into the actual subject
more thoroughly.
One might risk to feel the need to re-evaluate some hardened points of view maybe?

Nothing against constructive criticism, it can be important to an artist.
But seriously, where is the point in simple two-word discredits?
It comes to mind to question whether the trance-community is as open-minded, tolerant,
independent and anti-commonplace as it claims.

Remarkable that a few people have had the openness to get into the concept of the album
or just put the concept aside and enjoy the music,
because that's what it is at the end of the day and many people forget
that. Music! The concept is secondary, but nonetheless meaningful.

There was some intelligent points made in this thread as well.
PinkE for instance describes an interesting aspect of the trance scene,
which has probably the most homogeneous sound and artwork in the whole music business
with a secret agreement not to talk about politics, except if it is repressive
political measures against the "ideal world of undisturbed drug consumption".
It is not discussed however how that "ideal world" will prevail in an economically crashed
big brother polic-state society with RFID-chips reporting every action of a person.
Ficticious xenomorph paranoid non-sense? No, all out-in-the open information,
easily accessible, but 99% of all people prefer not to use their ability to "read" selectively (no boulevard press) and
rather slate any information that could potentially endanger their little peaceful reality.
Humanity has been like that ever since and has never learned from history, thats why
wars, oppression, genocide and totalitarian regimes will not cease to exist.
Okay, that is what i felt is needed to be pointed out concerning the last album.

mk47,
one might get the impression that you looked into the matter being discussed here with less than superficial attention as you even compare the unusual approach of this release with the rest of the trance music when you say : "there is no message .. ever".
That is the whole point of the album, to differ from most trance releases.

Have you actually listened to the album that is being talked about? It offers much more than just a vague impression from the track name.
Have you at all noticed the fact that there is vocals and elaborate lyrics on that album?
Maybe you just happened to only download a single track somewhere?
Apart from that there is cogently chosen samples in the tracks that explain the theme of the track.
If someone in these days still bothers to actually buy the CD then he will find concept-illustrating information and pictures on the cover that DO bring across a message.
So in what way does this music differ from other music styles that in your opinion justify concepts? I'd really like to know.

Mk47 you should start listening to pop music men, that's the kind of message that gets to you. Real messages can only be passed if they are understood in their basic form, FEELING. In psy all you need to do is add a tittle that leads you to the meaning, all the message is passed by the construction of the track, either you have the skill or the will to interpret or you don't, better yet, to live it. I dont know what kind of music you listen to but either its complete shit or you never took your time to really try and understand. But i don't blame you, 98% of the producers out there just want to make music that sell and work on the dance floor, would be perfect if they could merge that with a cause...           -------------d(oO)b----------------

Its good music man, just that concept is not new, it has been around for a while and it doesnt make a proposal its just empty idealism.

I do agree that trance, and much of the electronic scene as a counterculture, has a non conformist stand in our society. because of that we need proposals, not theories that dont get anyway.

I will sound extremely pragmatic but a simple proposal like "Place a one litre bottle in the deposit of your toilet to save one litre everytime you use it" will make far more impact that just telling a theory made by Chomsky 30 years ago.

So i understand your stand, I share it in some degree, but repeting it to the end wont make a damn thing to change politics.

Teenagers (most of the public who listen trance music, specially your music) need urgently a message of hope and something they can belive in, pls dont give them this empty speech, try to give a proposal, something they can deal with and implement in their lives.

i agree that proposals have a more pragmatic value than a desription of facts and i see the nobility of your ideals.
However i have decided not to lead this concept into a final proposal, because everyone who can think and understand what threat humanity is exposed to, will know what to do.
I intentionally stood away from proposing acts of uprisal, violence or counteraction, because i did not want to manipulate people (like the mainstream-media) into action nor do i advocate senseless acts of violence.
The decision to do something should come out of their own mind.
This is about information awareness not fighting. If every person on this planet would know that they are under attack, then
no fighting would be needed.
It is the biggest weapon of the forces that have declared war on the population that the people don't read and prefer to watch soap operas.

It is in the publically accessible UN documents, that their agenda is population control, leading eugenicists are talking about the necessity to kill 90% of the world's population PUBLICALLY !!!
There is no proposal needed once you are aware of this fact. And i have no hope to give to anyone as long as the UN, the Bilderbergers, Rockefellers and what their names might be, control world politics hidden in the background as there is no glory future for our youth to anticipate when they remain in charge.
Okay let's not overevaluate Noam Chomsky here, i have quoted a few sentences of Chomsky, but the mainframe of the message is based upon analysis of illuminati/eugenicist agendas exposed by people like Alex Jones or Jordan Maxwell and many others.
And i repeat it again in bold: "THE CONCEPT NEVER CLAIMED TO BE NEW!" Everybody got it now???
And why would this aspect disqualify the validity of the message? I really don't understand it.
When you observe what is going on in the world today, obviously 95% of humanity is completely clueless about the reality of the world they live in. So the information that is SO OLD has effectively not reached anyone and needs to be repeated and spread more.
Most of TV and the press are controlled and won't do it...

Well, I'm not sure if this facts you refer to are really facts or correspond to the truth. And I'm not here to judge this.

I know the album and I have most of its samples like the first one (I'm a sample freak):

"The 1776 was when this secret society actually formed itself into a secret society and put itself into operation."

And I'm also familiar with the lyrics, which are presented in the booklet.

I think it is totally valid to use any concept you want in your music, or to use your music to spread whichever message you want to. Maybe if you check Vegetal's debut or the last Neuromotor album you will find interesting info, as I already suggested.

Since you seem to want to spread this message, I suggest you to post the lyrics to the tracks on your website ( http://www.xeno-morph.net/xenomorph/XenoFrameSet.html ), cause if I couldn't find them there your fans also won't.
Respect!

I never mentioned the quality of the music, I just wrote based on what was written in the promotional-text, so I don’t know why you had to bring up that I enjoy house-music. I can assure you, that even if Minilogue made an album with this concept, I would still find it silly.

But as already mentioned - even though I find the thoughts behind it paranoid, I still think it's his right to say what he feels through the music.

Also, let's try to keep this thread away from political discussions, as it is still against the guidelines.           DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase
