If you're looking for a decent lower-end card you should check out the Echo Mia.. it has 2 analog ins and outs on balanced 1/4" jacks and coaxial SPDIF in/out..  the great thing about it is it's virtual outputs, you can have say, Cubase playing out of 1/2 and 3/4, have GigaStudio playing out of 5/6 and Reaktor playing out of 7/8 and the hardware mixes all the audio streams itself since most of the effects and compression/eq are taken care of already at the instrument itself.. as far as the inputs, I use an analog mixer, so one i/o is really all I need since I very very rarely record more than one instrument at a time..
The Delta 44 isn't much more so if you need more ins and outs check that out, but the 44 doesn't have digital i/o..

What's the digital I/O used for ? my minidisc has a usb cable to it so i dont need a digital I/O for that.

digital I/O is mainly for 'Phat!' recording.
since it is digital, the recording is exactly like it's on the harddrive.

recording on DAT and/or MD etc.

you can also record from DAT to the HD through the digital I/O which will give a perfect sound wave file.

Not only DATs. A lot of synths, speakers, amps, home theater and all sorts of audio gear has digital I/O's, so you should have this. Besides, it's only about 200 NIS difference between the 44 and 66.

has anyone tried the Delta Audiophile 2496? $155!!!  it has the "same professional 24-bit 96 kHz conversion as the delta 66 and 44 cards."
it has midi i/o, s/pdif i/o, and of course analogue i/o.  uses rca jacks instead of headphone style.

is this card too cheap to be true????

I'm taking a guess here but I guess it doesn't have low latency as the delta nor balanced i/o.

but still sounds nice

yeah i was looking at that OMNI studio package that midiman has it has a Delta 66 card and 6 in6out interface...its on musiciansfriend for $379.99 -usually $600.00 -
it's between this or the Audiophile..hmmm
see with this one when i get my laptop it says i can plug into the Quattro USB interface and i am good to go.
----------------------------
OMNI-I/O interface
24-bit/96kHz with no latency
Six in / six out to PCI card
Additional eight ins tro mixer section with record bussing
Two mic preamps with inserts and phantom power
FX send and return
Dedicated monitor and record outs
Two headphone outs

good buy?hard to decide

Sub woofers are not good to use when making music. Trust me, from experience.
