it can be nice on slower tracks (dnox n beckers style fe). And not too difficult to set up so it doesnt mess with the non delayed bassline. Set up a send fx and add an eq after the delay. Then cut the low end. By changing the amount of send on the bassline track you can decide how much wet you want.
Good luck!

I experience it to be very difficult to get right, but sometimes i got lucky and got close to the logic bomb basses...

So do you guy place a silent note to get the delay going so its cycle starts on time or do you just export the bass and make it loop? any ideas on this?

Try using mono delays. I like using the mono delays in predators FX's.

What you can do is put some midi info before you actually want to hear the notes but just put the volume on 0. But i guess this is what you mean with a silent note.

If you bounce it just cut a part of the section that already has a developed delay and put it in the first part where the delay isnt happening yet.

Have you got any tips on using delay with bass?
For example is it better to use something like ohmboyz to increase the frequency of the delayed bass, or is it better to leave it as it is? Or any tips on stereo panning of the delay? Or any other tips.

yes.. use brainworx Monomaker set freqencies below 100-300hz in mono,, the rest is up to you.. as long as 0-120hz (roughly) is in mono do what you want just narrow the image after so the mid bass dosnt mask any lead sounds..

or use elvayta wider boy pro.. use the spatial delay and piviot points.. i think this plugin is mainly for widening bass wilst maintaining mono under certain set points. experiment and have fun wid it !!!

I use delay on bass sometimes... I only delay from 350Hz to 1400Hz tho... just to give some bouncy effect when using K__BBK           www.xun.dk / myspace.com/xundk

reverb, widening, its just very specific implementations of delay or delays.

Confused as to the reasoning behind all the circa 300hz comments though... I reckon quite a lot lower can work - down to around 100hz. Obviously the very lows need to be mono, but curious as to why people are cutting that high, and if there is a technical reason, or just personal preference?

Indeed - the 'mono' of my stereo basses tends to be upto 200hz max.

I like to play around with delay when making a bass on my electribe it can change the character on the fly and many versions, but it is to rumbly for cubase so far ,maybe with side chaining and a better eq I could improve.

i like dotted 1/8 - dub style delay - with 0 feedback and experiment with the placement and the length of the notes

Tranan - Cluedo. Killer bassline and tune altogether.

For trance I don't put delays on the actual bassline track, just layer a synth with a delay on it.

If you want to drop the gain on the delay return on the dry bassline note trigger, you can sidechain the delay buss to the bassline track (and kick if you wanted to) and drop its gain as much as you see fit on the dry bassline notes and kick triggers.

Elad you mean cut completely from 300hz till end of spectrum?
I find it really hard to cut all the nice frequencies..I know cutting is necesseary to avoid overlapiness but mostly cannot decide between those sounds, which one to cut so extremeley. And with small fine cuttings like only a few dbs there are always more instruments on same areas.. though eq becomes a good friend slowly.
last question, sorry wrong toopic but I take the chance here.Do you guys use sometimes kicks from external intruements? They're always not that short in lenght..but sound so massive.D'you cut them also extrmely?
Peace

Just take out all the bass up to about 300Hz on the delay and you'll be fine, with care.

That and make sure you duck the bass nicely with the kick! apply sidechain after the delay on the bass!           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:
