@ jaws:
also if you use delay, you're probably interested in the mid frequencies more. try cutting the low end of the echoes a bit, so that they don't interfere with the main bass notes. |

i dont agree about reverb in bass
makes it fluffy!! at least in my ears
a synced to tempo monophonic delay can do some more grooving to the bass but only with a short feedback or it will became moody
i use reverb for bass in chill tracks some time

It depends on how u use the reverb and of course of the bass line u want to archive. For a bassline that have enough space u can use reverb. Best is u cut the tail and use only the predelay synced, maybe slightly out of time, with settings of a small room. Also nice on drums.

i use delay in some of my basslines when i want them to sound rediculously psychedelic, but for dancy or simple stuff i would avoid it. |

I've never used any effects besides a bit of tight reverb on the bass channel before, but I make sure I don't send anything below 400hz or so to the effects processor cause it takes away from low end definition.
Have used delay on a layered lead that plays the bassline's notes one/few octaves higher that gives a nice rythmic vibe to the whole thing, leaving the bass patch simple and solid.

btw, kjaerhus classic chorus can be very nice on the bass when used moderately. you can use it to widen the bass sound to make it stick out of the mix.
And as people already said, cut the low end when using delays and avoid strong feedback (no feedback ie. just simple delay usually is enough). unless you do it, it can really mud up the low end for the bass. the cubase also has a nice filter/eq which allows to use separate eq for both left and right. you can use it to make the delay stand out more (affects the stereo image) |

have you heard chorus in bassline in pa speakers?
its a dissasterat least in my ears its like putting a stereo expander in the master and go play live in 20kw in home listening may sound great but in pa its like autopan in bass there is no definition in the sound, bass must be centered like kick or else... try it in pa!!
