If you have your computer organized, u'll probably never will have to de-frag..
I've got a seperate drive for all my apps, and one for audio-projekts...
If u do it that way ,your system-drive will stay clean...
Never really heard anyone on osx that de-fragged...
You could index your drives regurarly and do a "Repair Disc Permissions" after every install...
You find it in > Disc Utilities

don't defrag until u don't understand how OSX works.
it won't help u to achieve the best performance.
if u want to get e better performance u can do these things:
1. disable "journaling" on the audio drive
2. disable "widgets"
3. disable "spotlight" (instead of spotlight u can use "pathfinder app" to find a files on your hd)
these processes interrupt the audio/midi processes which slow down the system.
also if u work on slower machine, u can disable some unused fonts - it works very good. juts find the software called "diablotin" wchich is free and run it to disable unneeded things.
but the best things it's to seek the net because there are so much advices and answers for yo questions.
