I have no experience with that big waldorf, but i do have a pulse (the smallest of the waldorf-stable)
in my experience, they are ideal for psytrance... Lush oscillators, lot's of modulation.... And the wave prolly also has a good filter (my pulses filter sucks donkey balls). They aren' as aggressive as the nord or the virus, but they have they're very own sound and almost any sound u coakse out of it can be used for psytrance....
Personally i really love the waldorf sound... Mainly because of the great oscillators, but i think yours is a wavetable synth, no? Anyway, i'm sure it sounds every bit as lush and powerfull as the other waldorfs... And you will sound more original then all the people with a nord lead or an access virus... |

Even nowadays, Waldorf Wave is very expensive ($8,000-10,000) and rare. I know that Wave uses an wavetable synthesis and its engine is very similar to Waldorf XT, although it has analog filters and allows resynthesis. In Waldorf XT, you should use an external software in order to make the same thing. If you are interested in wavetable synthesis, you could try the Microwave 2 or XT, because they are cheap on Ebay. So, let me explain about the XT, which I have one.
XT has a digital filter, whose function was ported from the Microwave 1 (this has an analog filter), however its very very agressive and has self-oscilating, i.e. it's possible to generate a wave sinus from the filter and to make great kicks on it. Besides that, the XT/XTk have a lot of kind filters, some really really crazy and weird, e.g. Wavesharper, FM filter and Sample and Hold - read the XT SOS link below in order to understand these filters.
In my opinion, Waldorf XT can sound more agressive and dirty than Virus or Nord Lead, of course (thanks for the nature of wavetable synthesis). Virus sounds agressive if you use the saturation/distortion effects(the same thing for the Supernova II), but the sound generated from the XT's oscillators already are harsh! (sometimes digital harsh).
Another cool thing about wave line is it can sound like an analog synth, if you want this (the emulation is good, not the same like a Virus or Supernova, though).
If you asked me if the XT can make "great psy-trance" sounds I will say: YESSSSSSSSSSS!
This machine really rocks for come up with new weird/crazy/atmospheric sounds. Icluding its FAAAT pads, what's an amazing!

Ozric Tentacles has an Wave synth. Nine Inch Nails (Trent Reznor) used and abused the XT/XTk in his old albuns (as well as abused from the Prophet-VS, but this another story...). Some years ago, Depeche Mode abused the original PPG Wave. Deedrah has a Waldorf XT.

and don't forget the wavestation!! only recently remade in software by korg themselves in the korg legacy pack... Now it's easier to use, more powerfull, and it sounds every bit as good as the original (according to soundonsound)
nice to know that some waldorfs can be aggressive too!! |

i've got a microwave 2 wich i love...
it aint a very used synth in psy, comparing with nords and virus, and it's great for everything, from basses to leads, to pads, to whatever...
the only drawback is the lack of buttons, for that i recomend a xt or xtk wich are more expensive (i think about 48 buttons on these)
however to take full advantage of a microwave you'll need a pc to edit the waveforms and upload them to the synth
great tool, great sounds...
  roll a joint or STFU :) |

On the software side try out the ConcreteFX Kubik synth. It is a software wavtable synth, but u need some time to get into it, but it is able to make killer pads and sounds.
