it doesnt have anything to do with the topic, but, i m thinking in change my lap for a refurbished one..
do you think a dual core t5500 processor with 2mb cache memory is suficient for using the daw without having to render midi all the time? It is 4gb ram...
Does the cache memory make a difference? i mean i can get one with 3mb or 6mb of cache memory but will be way more expensive, and i found this refurbished asus with a t5500 processor for a good price...what do you think?
as far for the topic, my opnion is, firts learn to use the cdj, and when you feel comfortable with it you can go to the laptop, just cause one day you could be without your equipmente and need to use the cdj`s of the partie..
peace

Laptop! I used to dj with cds, now I do with laptop, why? because I have more control and creative potential, I am not even mentioning remixing and editing tracks |

Still people that use real DJ gear is more cool than seeing a Dj with a laptop... i like the idea of working with hands on... but today with all the midi tools its almost hands on.. but dedicated hardware is porbably more stable and no latency at all..
though i think there are more music creators here than Dj´s maybe.. thats why a laptop suits the needs more....

For pure DJing I prefer decks... just personal choice, dedicated hardware for a particular job always performs better IMO.
If you want to produce or browser the internet for your money then get laptop.

Also hip hop djs who like to scratch use digital music instead of vinyl records.

You can only play your own tracks in that format or if you are lucky to get these files from other artists, and like Dennis says how often do you have a collection of released music in that format? and i mean old music aswell..
people are djing with mp3s nowdays so djing with cds is much much better....
but of course if you are playing your own tracks and have all the gear to play in 24bit its nice... but really how often do that happen anyway?

Whats the first thing that the organisers got on stage for a party, rave, or even on a big festival? well, I always see a pair of decks, no matter if they are CDJ-100 or CDJ-1000, and a mixer.
In my lil town we call this DJ gear, and believe me that we had killer events only with this obsolete stuff
Peace to everyone

I know this is an old question, but I say Laptop. Sooner or later almost every dj in the world will be using a computer for their presentations.
We have to keep on evolutionating, that's the way it is. (Still missing my 1200 MK2, but...)
