thanks psytones, that means a lot!

I realised after I posted how pretentious that sounded, hope it wasn't too bad... it was a diary entry for yesterday I made after reading the thread and thought I'd put it in, didn't mean to theorise too much sorry if that got on anyone's nerve.

now, to check out this 'neo goa' stuff...

Brilliant writer, and humble. =) Your welcome btw.

Oh, just one thing. Death of Goatrance. 1994 was the first commercial year of Goatrance. So in reality. Didnt Goatrance "die" a long long time ago? If you compare real Goa music from the late 80s and such, you will hear that it is miles away from the Goa-Head, Destination Goa, Astral Projection, Hallucinogen ect sound. So Goa has been "dead" a long time. Or it morphed into other sounds. .. ? I dont know.

I guess (?) real Goa is when they took electronica tracks like Front 242, Depeche Mode ect and ripped them apart to make it more dancible. And then, people started to produce their own sounds and tracks. .. The Goa sound has just evolved throu the years, so with that in mind. I dont think Goa is dead. It has just evolved. blabla Ask Goa Gil.

i agree with psytones

indeed original goatrance is dead long time ago ,

today it looks like the medium as become more important than the goal (a state of trance)

if u want to understand why psytrance is dead u have to go to the roots

because original goa trance is not but was more a melting
of many different electronic styles , into a single sonic experience

this spirit was killed in mid nineties by Hallucinogen , consorts , and especially a label named TIP .
Those people promoted an exclusively organically funky sounding style of music ,
creating a genre inside this genre ,and flooded the scene with this style.
imposing it with the help of subliminal pics of indian gods and stuff
reaching its apogée of organic brainwashing sounds with bands like GMS ,

(Today the most brainwashed organic sounds addicts degenerated into this non-sense music that we call DARK trance.
yeah sorry for dark trance addicts around ,but dark trance is the bastard child of Gms)

then it was killed again by Transwave in mid nineties
who at this time were recognized as the first psytrance artists who promoted heavy bass and kik ,
making most other psy artists at this time starting looking for better production ,
until the production (kik and bass especially ) became more important than melodies and story ,
creating this subgenre ppl call FULLON.

Thats why many original goa artists left this scene to continue experiment trance music as they like it ,
and not repeting the same patterns of hallucinogen, transwave ,gms and consorts
(thinkin to artists like Nick Taylor, Fred Disko, Krys Kilven, Zodiac Youth, X-Dream .... just to name a few!)

but i think GOA MUSIC IS STILL ALIVE, its just hidden by the flood of mainstream shit music labelled as being such.

if u want to listen Goa Trance , then one advice , dont listen to what shops and labels tend to label as "GOA".
but rather listen to good Australian artists like Nam Shub Of Enki and some Finnish psychedelic trance
( have a taste here : http://www.antiscarp.com/ ) ,
as well as good techno and good electro (start with a label like Boshke Beats, who are really eclectic in their tastes and not stuck into goa fashion all the same boring patterns) for example.

like they says in X-Files , the truth is somewhere else

Thanks for the link, good and interesting music to be found there!

I think you generalize a bit too much, there are some very good dark-psy and fullon albums /compilations, but it's true that the amount of releases in those subgenres is just ridiculous, the vast majority of it being unremarkable.           Row row row your boats gently down the stream; merrily merrily merrily merrily life is but a dream.

For me the one thing characterizes Old Goa Trance and psychedelic trance in general is acid lines from a Tb303, if there is one sound that is the glue to any track, yet be an underlying bass groove , or driving lead its the 303

if there is one sound that sounds the calls to trance when intoxicated on the right psychedelics, its the 303

thats whats missing....but besides that...too much snare these days , alighning "psy" with house beats and grooves, and not enough use of interesting whacked and well thought out sounds.....

I agree, I think what's happened is, psytrance as a GENRE is being called "dead" because its characterists have fossilised; it has become a sign, as in it now has had strong associations fused into it (like GMS, Infected Mushroom etc.) in the public realm and they have been given time to petrify. This is why you can now buy psytrance sample CDs with cliched sounds on them that make obvious references to psytrance so people can go "oh right, now we're listening to psy - hear that hi-pass squelch? that's it."

In that sense it may be entirely possible to say psytrance is dead, but there is no way in hell that trance-inducing, psychdelic dance music is dead.

Amen brother!!!

Datakult: you make a good point indeed, but Hallucinogen and old TIP stuff represent an important part of Goa trance for me and they most definitely satisfy the goal (of the listener reaching a state of trance). I'm a bit partial to the subgenre they formed... hehehe

Btw Fingax: New Cosmosis is fantastic, I agree!

Lost Buddha: I checked out your tunes man, and I dig them, they are fucking brilliant. Well done.          We need to stop consuming culture, we need to create culture...
