| its not death its evolution... |
| I'm calling it regression. Recent music is not as advanced as it was back in 90's (1996-1998).
The golden years of goa has passed away, and likely will never come back. If i would have to compare 2005 and 1997 music i would say this:
+ Mestering techniques are on incredibly high level these days
- The quality, advance level of "single" sounds was 100x better in 1997.

ye, i agree with this point, and:
The technology evolved >>>, but as i see it, the trip that the tracks generate (generalizing, of course!) has changed course, for not saying that it goes for back << [ge-ne-ra-li-zing!]

People probably get bored of the same formular sound of goatrance, so back in late 90's there was big boom for innovation and progression. We are now in the middle of next decade, and what we have ? I think if we compare old productions with new school ones, we notice that psytrance didnt progress at all, it regressed!!! I can only agree for mastering issues, these days they are on absolutely very high level, but advance of music itself was on 100 times higher level 10 years ago.
Goatrance is dead forever i think
Ahhh 1 more thing, the ones who consider for exaple filteria playing goatrance are as wrong as people saying britney spears is blues star Old school fans should exactly know what i have on mind writing this....

I don't see much influence of goa on full on tracks.
Full on is a evolution of psy trance. Green nuns of the revolution, some Miranda tracks, some Fractal Glider tracks, Terra Firme.
There's three types that can be confused. Psy trance (also mistaken as goa trance), classical goa and hard goa. These are the ones that i found so far.
Hard goa its more... hard. Stronger and faster base lines. Chi-a.d. - transparent sea, e-rection - out here we are stones (x-dream remix) Hunab-Ku - Phoenix.
And you have classical Goa, my favorite. The most Indi melodic one. Softer base line, even though you can find 148 bpms tracks, it dosen't feel that fast. Astral projection - time began with universe, ketzal, Shakta - Lepton Head (deedrah remix)
There's also one artist, that makes what he call "Dark forest goa", named Ka-Sol. More dark oriented trully, but i don't know if its just another gender for the list.
And Goa its not dead! There's still artist making all kind of Goa Genders. But unfortunaly, people seem to miss judge it, like they refuse to listen to what they think as "old"=Bad.
2006 Albuns:
Filteria - Heliopolis
Afgin - Old is Gold
2005 Albuns
Khetzal - Corolle
Radical Distortion Vs Mendark - Purple Energy
2004 Albuns
Ypsilon 5 - Binary Sky
Filteria - Sky_Input
Its like all genders, you need to find the tracks you like most. Its really a pitty that we let it die, such happy and powerfull kind of music. Please don't turn your back on Goa. Give it a try. |

i have to agree with u my friend ....
goa isn´t old = bad
it´s a kind of state of mind and heart
but in my opinion some progressive tracks got that spirit that melodie or that fx that remember old goa tunes i can see a bit of goa feeling in some progressive tunes like
ANDROMEDA
ACE VENTURA
SYMPHONIX
ALEXANDER LIGWOSKY
HUMAN BLUE
( its my humble opinion)
eh eh eh eh eh

Hehehe, I've been in the scene since 1996, but for me psytrance has only become better. I really like progressive psytrance. What Iboga releases nowadays is way better than what they used to release (even that was pretty good though) but anyway... that's it for me. When I listen to old compilations I have this sentimental value for some of the tunes, whereas with other tunes I amaze myself over the fact that productionquality was so low back then. Listening back to some old faves, I even get annoyed sometimes that the overall soundpicture isn't clear enough and that the tune could've been even better with better mastering. Oh well...
I got tired of the goasound pretty quickly and I was glad that around 1999 we got more experimental (minimal mostly) music with artists experimenting with the style itself. Son Kite made Minilogue in that time, which was a really minimal album. Comparing Minilogue now to Colours it's obvious they've come a long way since then. And that goes for a lot of artists. Psytrance just progressed, and so should the people. People that dwell on the past stop progression in general. That's just the way it is.
