I'm calling it regression. Recent music is not as advanced as it was back in 90's (1996-1998).
The golden years of goa has passed away, and likely will never come back. If i would have to compare 2005 and 1997 music i would say this:
+ Mestering techniques are on incredibly high level these days
- The quality, advance level of "single" sounds was 100x better in 1997.

Genres dont die, they evolve and move on. There are aspects that people like of one genere alot - then run with it to the extreme, and make new genres out of it.

Right now, I'm listening to a really early detroit-techno set. While this style as far as 'production' goes may not be the same - I can recgonize elements of minimal, banging, trance, house and psytrance in this set.

Then, people have taken elements of this sound that they liked, and it slowly evolved into other genres and sub-genres.

Goa through 6 degree's of seperation came from this sound, then elements of Goa that people like got 'extracted' and turned into new sounds and styles. A certian bassline came up that people liked and became popular, and thus started Full-on.

Then people take elements of these sounds, and influences from other genres and continue to change and evolve it.

You may not like where it's ended up - but music is a constnatly evolving and changing thing. I'd rather see things change and evolve, than stagnate into the same sound for years on end.

If you think goa is dead then give a listen to Kethzal's album, or his "Positive Alchemists" compilation for a nice surprise...

You can't seperate death and evolution.           Row row row your boats gently down the stream; merrily merrily merrily merrily life is but a dream.

I think anyone saying 'Goa trance is dead' should actually be saying 'Goa trance is dead for me'.

all trance has goa influence, and alot of the new stuff is sounding like the old stuff,

maybe you should try some different shops.
