I practically see myself as the character in PI and Requiem For A Dream is one of my favs...
I have no idea why it took me so long to see Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain until last night..I can't stop thinking about it, the most beautiful piece of "art" I've ever seen..
I knew on first viewing it was 3 connected stories spanning from 1500, the present and 2500ad...That helped, without out that it would have seemed like nonsense and too confusing.
You want to go into the movie knowing this:
3 interconnected story lines.
People don't accept death and want to live forever...

I think that even though a lot of people see it as a "cheesy" film, I personally view this movie as Aronofsky's finest. Yea, the story is quite a cliche and maybe not very sophisticated, but visually it's stunning and Clint Mansell's music is truly beautiful. I've seen it 5~6 times and it doesn't lose it's strength. Also, make sure you watch the Blu Ray version as it's a visual trip that must be watched in HD.

I read quite a few reviews and don't really get the cheesy complaints I read. I think that is focusing on the love story part a bit much. I got more from it that it was about him accepting death. When he smiles and says "im going to die", never quite felt that from a movie..
There are some reviews of the Black Swan script on IMDB, Aronofsky's next film that sound quite good. Sounds way dark and twisted. Natalie Portman and Winona Ryder..
I still haven't seen The Wrestler..I'm building a 200 inch home theater and that is the first movie up on blue ray in my theater.
I've heard Aronofsky be called the new Kubrick...
If The Black Swan is good PI, Requiem, The Fountain, The Wrestler and Black Swan will have already topped Kubrick's entire career IMO.

Ahh man 3rd time through....i think the people who would call this cheese are fucking morons who only pretend to get it.
I think i read the chick in this is actually Aronofsky's wife.
3rd time through I finally got the middle part of the movie after she collapses and her talk.
Aronofsky is the god of modern art, hands down..no one is even fucking close.           http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain_in_a_vat

I've heard this song like a thousand times when it was released. Bruce was undeservedly robbed of the Academy Award in this one. Also, the song fits the movie so freaking well..
