just wanted to say:

to make the Top 40 charts in the UK you only need to sell around 2500 copies.

maybe our scene ain't so bad after all...

Mate i dont know where you got this info from but 99% it sounds like non reliable to be.

Even if it is true though keep in mind that good psy trance releases sell 2000-2500 copies on a WORLDWIDE basis and there is no way someone can sell not 2500 but even half of that just in the UK.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

Also the UK singles chart is weekly so you have to sell 2500 in one week.           1-0-1-0-1-0-1-0-?-0-1

yeah, it's weekly sales of singles... which is why i put the winky face

DETOX, i heard the 2,500 figure on a new report about how unsigned bands are making the charts via downloads alone. i found it quite unbelievable too, so i checked it out:

A title selling over 2,500 copies would make the Top 40. These figures have approximately halved since 2002 - more at the no.1 position.

Interesting site Aeon with some interesting "facts" also.

I guess though that a cd single has to sell at least little more to make it to the charts.I mean 2500 copies to make it to the top 40 UK sounds very small ammount of cds with a country with a huge music fan database and history where many famous artists are based not to mention the american entries.

Anyway interesting info though i guess we cant verify them.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

I dont know if it counts as psychedelic or not (as psy trance actually) but i guess either the first or the second Shpongle album is the best selling cd ever in our small scene.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

Juno Reactor - "Beyond the Infinite" shifted shit loads of units back in the hey days of psytrance, 1995.
Something like over 50 000 units.

I read somewhere Hallucinogen's first album has sold over 10 000 copies over the years.

Regarding the digital sales and big names, Vibrasphere have in their own words sold round 1400 tracks in the 1-1½ years they've been in the digital business, with little promotion.

1400 tracks is like selling 140 cds (lets say 10 tracks each cd) which is actually nothing.

Digital Downloading is not the solution at least for the moment (and if you ask me it will never be) for the crisis of the music industry.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

Not for you as a label owner maybe, but you are missing one vital fact....
They get about the same per track sold directly via musicdock as they get per CD sold in a shop.
Also, selling 140 CD's and making any profit at all is impossible as you probably know.
On the other hand with downloads you can make profit on the first sold copy.

I can agree that 1400 downloads will not make you rich, but if you are comparing it to selling 140 CD's you are either clueless or purposely misleading.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

I forgot to add that when I emailed Vibrasphere asking if they could possibly re-release Echo on CD, they said it's not a financially sound idea. Such a pity.           When rain dries, clouds form.

Mh, okay. I´m a hobby musician.

I don´t make pure Trance / Goa or such, more a mixture of severall styles. I was on 2-3 comps though.

a) Split Effect "Controlcenter" self released sold 100x (price was 10 DM)

b) Depeche Mode covers sampler (promoted by German DeMo site) sold all 500. My track: Split Effect "Barrel Of A Gun"

c) Interbreeding 7 (BLC Prod. USA) no idea. But it was in the Metropolis records USA top 10 for some time. So I guess some 1000 units (?). My track Alpha Quadrant "The Borg Threat"

I earned 200€ or so over the years (incl. early MP3.com $). Paid 2500€ or so for equipment. Well such music won´t make you rich more poor
