Would like to thank you for the free releases. And for sample packs. And for that tips-for-newbies thread.

...And (hopefully) for not killing me, once I am done with the cover of “Attractive Synthesis”

My applause to Ektoplazm too. What you do is undoubtedly the way of the future.

The thing is, unless you are a well-known artist, the amount of money you’ll get from CD sales is not worth the trouble. And you are not going to become a well-known artist until you invest heavily in self-promotion. It’s ultimately about getting your music into as many ears as possible. Free Web releases seem like a logical solution. If ever I produce anything worth releasing (in the next century perhaps), I’ll definitely try to do it on a free label. On Ektoplazm, if they don’t go 100% progressive by then

If people make new music available as digital downloads easier there might be more sales.....

Obviously...

My debut album was released on Beatspace and other sites last summer.

http://beatspace.bandcamp.com/album/axis-mundi-one-foot-in-fantasy-anomalistic-records

The CD printing cost 1100 euro. The artwork cost me 200 euro (paid for from my pocket). From CD and Online sales I am now only 400 euro in debt, as of now, which by my estimates (the hard numbers are not in front of me at my current location) indicates approx. 70 copies total. (again, that's just an educated estimate at the current moment.) I've sold another 20 copies or so by hand to friends/family and at parties. I have a few hundred copies still in my home to sell or give away.

My "Sunday Morning Cartoons" v/a was released on the same week, and from my estimates, has done better than my solo album sales, having sold out at different points on a few online ordering stores, which are not restocked. (Money is still owed for the printing of that, however, and I have about 20-30 copies to sell/give)

I can check the units sold in my email and post, Mundi..i believe you are off by a lil bit

We @ Anomalistic are only going to be releasing a couple CD's a year and remain digital, and i'd like to keep the free music coming that is CD worthy also..that's really my mission at the moment..to GIVE CD's away without the waste on the environment.            WARNING: The Reality Master General has determined that Mr. Vomit may significantly alter your reality. I really don't understand why people continue to throw money away on printing CDs. Release digitally...then what few sales you do get will actually net you something as opposed to making you a little less in debt. It seems so painfully simple?            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

There is a weird think in this scene, when you release digitaly, nobody notice the release and don't buy it...

When you release on a cd and digital, it get's more attention, but people buy it digital

Anyway, people buyed digital last year, but now the sales are going down also in this media           VA - Spiritual Science out now!

I would still print if I had a record label because I really like cd's much more than digital releases.
Losing a bit of money would be part of the process, but that is ok.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

To all if interested.
If You're searching for lowering the priniting costs, You can try pressing plants in PL

for example
500 CDs / full colour offset printing / 4 page booklet / jewel box transparent tray (standard CD) about 500 EUR
1000 CDs - all the same / 650 EUR
Quality ok, tested & I've seen samples, looks ok
All prices with vat already.
If U're interested or any other questions, ask me with prv message.

i may well regret saying this, for fear of the evil flames:

but instead of spending all our time making psytrance, we could just all go get real jobs in holistic/sustainable things....
i mean, when has this ever been about the money??

The problem of digital only releases is that people still use mostly cd shops to inform themselves about releases. However there is no psy related digital shop yet that can be considered as a replacement of the psy cd shops. At the same time a digital shop like Beatport is just overkill for the average psy music listener.
A website like Ektoplazm is not successful just because it offers free music, it offers much more than that.
