you mean from ektoplazm shop 200 copies?

Mostly in person. The shop does not sell too many copies of anything. This makes sense: free digital media is optimal online. By-donation physical media works best in the real world. Why have the shop then? Well, why not? Doesn't hurt. It's the same service that I use to print up physical copies for sale at parties or for promotion.

People always talk about artists "making a living" from their music. Here's an eye-opening infographic demonstrating just how much an artist needs to sell in order to scrape by with a minimum wage:

Also interesting (though it may have been posted before)... "Are downloads really killing the music industry? Or is it something else?"

May I ask why you even bother to release a physical CD that barely break even?

Don't take me wrong I like CD's but I dont see the benefit in releasing CD's anymore when you can release digital and probably sell just as much or even more this way without the heavy production costs and not to forget in an environmental friendly way           www.beatagency.dk

A physical cd still has more impact I think. A digital release is easier than a real cd. If a label has enough faith in you to release a physical cd it's better for your 'artistic cv' than a digital release i'd say.

And if the label makes sure not to have too much spendings you could break even quite quickly. And still have loads of promo copies for handing out, sending out to promote your live/ dj set.
So from a promotion perspective it could still be worthwhile the effort.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

this info is not correct ...

if an artist work with a label and a distrib ,
he will touch from a cd selled max 20% , much depend of your contract with the label , could be more than 20% , or even less....

itune same story ,, from 1 dollar track ,
working with label + digital distrib , selled in a shop, an artist will touch (if is lucky) 12.5% of the 1 dollar ....

the only way to get more money from selling , is to own your label and distribute direct on shops, witouth using any distributors in betwen you (artist) and the shops ...

i checked out this http://www.informationisbeautiful.net
look a bit rubish info ....

anyway, have a nice day everyone !!!

All three posts were very interesting, thanks for sharing. Regarding music something else probably. What happens is that with piracy people 'react' to the prices that music Used to have. With all the music sharing web spaces people will pay a few per month to those, or telecom companies and have what they need. Also 9.90 for an ulbum can be ok for most people. It's not really killing the music industry as said, the are big sales in the digital sector from many different sides and the costs of the productions in general are much smaller than 10 or 20 years earlier, so maybe it's not the big time anymore for the music industry. As in every other industry except quite few.. all three links should be read to answer your question

I find that an amazing fact, for the last 10 years you haven't even been able to find HAllucinogen stocked in any uk record stores. I think downloaders are quick to face the blame for poor sales of Psy CD'd but (I can only speak about the uk scene I know here) the distribution of the music was a joke no magazines have given this music any space at all and there has never been a uk psy trance magazine that's been worth reading.

i know for a fact that the total annual sales of all psytrance together, is probably less than one day sale of Lady Gaga's album           When death comes to your doorstep, make sure you are alive
