^ Very nice idea. We need to take advantage of the size of the scene..there's no reason everything has to be so impersonal when it's probably cheaper or at least more fun to come up with ideas like that.

We released
Soul Kontakt - Hypnotized sold around 300 copies...
Soul Kontakt - Deliverance EP is for free and http://www.ektoplazm.com/profiles/soul-kontakt/ downloaded 10,969 times!
Now looking at our few releases we did not get any money back at all from Hypnotized which was released on a major label, they sold 300 copies while on Ektoplazm our debut EP was downloaded 10,000 that to me is clear that it's really not worth the hassle CD's and all...
I think you can make some money to live when you play live today there is no market for CD'S it's all very limited while then when you release for free your music is listened by shit loads of people much much more than if they have to pay for it!

all the "great" downloads are there just since you can for change to actualy see how much it is.
realese on cd wont get less downloads+the sales+even more downloads!
if you could track emule and bittorent you would know but neither of us have the numbers , but many stuff on cds gets to sharing sites and free-realeses arent.

probably not less , but you will never really know ha.
simple math exercise, go "out there" to soulseek and emule , look for same artist free release and their cd that also have hard copies... guess what.. www.sattelbattle.com

u can -somehow- track illegal downloads by checking the number of the seeders from tracker to tracker that your album is being illegally shared.
