OT: and thats the point bro!
its true that a lot of statements of professionals and technically knowledgeable people dont coincide with what we hear in music. they are often more desired, than the facts.
but i think its better to be guided by good sound (ie, those statements), because there is no quality control in music industry, and not everything that is released must to sound good           http://www.beatport.com/release/cross-the-atoms/1042450

cause too much lowend don t sound good , if the low end is right, adding high pass filters can just make it worst , it flip the phase ,can add phase distortion resonance, ringing, delay, eat more headroom.. or pre ringing/ smearing transients.. but these artifacts are still better than too much low end... and depending the type of filter used it can be more or less transparent.
it s pick you poison in the end, compromise to get better sound

so you want to say that crashing track by adding bad hipass is better than leaving some lo end?
i think that tracks where is small amount of lo end dont need to hipass, and tracks where is bad mix where is tooo much of lo end (many times boosted on eq), hipass dont help just crash mix more.
btw good mix with hipass used with head is ok           http://www.beatport.com/release/cross-the-atoms/1042450

It's on a case by case/track by track basis, and you need to listen to the results. That's the only way to determine it.

If there's too much audible low end, then I'd reach for a low shelving EQ way before a HPF.           http://hermetechmastering.com : http://www.discogs.com/artist/Gregg+Janman : http://soundcloud.com/babaluma

runing the signal into some specific hardware gears can "cut" the low end or make it "tighter " wihtout a filter, gears like this that are a bit bass light can work good on mix with too much lowend
