Well the only year I went 2005, actually was bunch of Psytrance. We had Trance and Dance stage I think it was by Psytribe, which was amazing DJ Bog performed and CPU. Outpost 23 if I am not mistaken, and Technoasis had couple of Psytrance days. Great freaking System they had there 360 of speakers around yummy.

Actually on that stage Paradigm blew my head off on a Thursday Morning. Still can't forget that morning...

Best of luck with the event, our event is the same month as burning man, but we are on the east coast...it affects our numbers SOME, but the die hard night enthusiasts usually choose us over burningman..or are hardcore and go to both lol.            WARNING: The Reality Master General has determined that Mr. Vomit may significantly alter your reality. there's not much left for psy on the playa from what i was told about last year. it has either gone off the radar in black rock or its just not as evident because the big esplanade camps will not host psytrance.

Most of the psy orgz in the states have set up camp at least once in the past, like Space Elevator, Green Sector, CCC, Psytribe, and our PsyCircle mini-camp a few years ago. Then you have the Outpost 23 Mobile Psy Stage, they have gone out quite a few times.

I haven't heard of any psy camps going this year yet and it's already May. Usually the info is up by now.

interesting, thank you. i imagine it would be hard to do something there because of the lack of resources out there and how the event would have to be free. this would be expensive I imagine, but it sounds like it would be crazy to have a good Psy party within Burning Man

thanks for the info!

Very cool thanks for this info. One of my goals is to someday contribute to Burning Man by helping organize some type of psy stage there. Perhaps when I finally start receiving income after school I can help to collaborate with whatever other organizers are helping to do a Psy stage at Burning Man. Man that would be so fun to be out in the middle of the desert with all the art and fire and then have a Psy stage rocking out too, I bet it gets pretty crazy there haha Thanks for the info!          Abrahm

bm is lots of money $400. then the attendees have to do all the work while someone is banking like a rockefeller. and theres no psy trance stage from what i hear anymore.

i smell shannigans anyways

im saving my $ for all of the raging psy fests this year.. and i have a feeling im in the majority of trancers on that tip just dont go to bm and you can fund every psy festival of the year lololll          --PSYOWA AND BEYOND--

Burning Man is a 100% for-profit event that fattens Larry Harvey's pockets. In an interview he did online, he said that running Black Rock City is like any other city, and it needs to make money or its not worth doing anymore.

These guys probably clear a million or two in profits each year, but could be lower after all of the fines and costs involved in running a city, including paying off the police to be there in full force. that alone probably costs half a million. Then the BLM gets about 2 million just for the permit to use the lake bed. the numbers add up pretty quickly. And BM does not pay for any music whatsoever.

Abe, if you want to organize a psy party on the playa, you have to pay for everything yourself and you get jack-squat from the door admission. Your only compensation is that you might make some people very happy and could potentially turn some newbies onto psytrance. You have to be in it for the vibe only.

Burning Man is about participation and pay-to-play, even if you're an artist.

Now, they do have art "grants" that they give to the bigger camps so they can create massive art displays. But as far as I know, sound camps get the big F-U.

so if you want to bring psy to the playa, prepare to drop quite a few thousand $$$ to haul your sound system, stage, and camping gear from Iowa to Nevada.

I think this is probably why there's no psy out there anymore, it's just too damn expensive and psy promoters in the states barely break even, if profit at all.

The big rave companies have the largest camps and systems out there because they make shit-tons of money during the year, and Burning Man is a big tax write-off for their LLC's. Somehow they are able to get the big dogs like Rabbit in the Moon, DJ Dan, Donald Glaude, Tiesto, Oakenfold, and those caliber djs to play for free. Or they just pay for their transportation.

So if you want to have top-name psy acts come in, add that cost to your "budget". Just remember that if you do it, it has to be for the love of it because you eat every penny you spend.

Burning Man stage production is only for the Rich and Famous that have thousands of dollars to burn for a week full of fun. food for thought, hope your hungry

Don't get me wrong, the event itself is very fun and can be life changing if you are an art fanatic. But, if you're just going to hear music, you're missing 90% of the festival.           We are all family. We put the fun in disfunctional.

No its not. That's a over a month after Burningman. Love parade is late Sept.

Chris, not to say otherwise, but your new to SF. Alternative culture all but shuts down in the city that week. In fact so much of SF is gone that week, traffic jams don't even exist getting into and out of the city at rush hour during that week.

I'm not trying to convince anybody not to do anything, but be smart.
As i said before id hate to see any promoter loose their ass on a ill-timed date. I have no plans myself, and wont even be in the states at this time, so really i have no hidden motives or agenda.
Most, not all people going to the playa (and that number does include a healthy amount of trancers) do not partake in anything leading up the Bman. Going to the playa takes lots of money, and weeks of prep work. Most folks tend to save their energy before hand.... and post playa everyone is just too burnt out to care about anything.

The actual amount of trance and whether it exists or doesn't at Burningman is irrelevant. Most people go to Burningman because its Burningman, not just because there is a trance stage or not. Music, while important is secondary to the total experience. Most trancers are more than 1 dimensional and have other counter-cultural interests.

BUT... due to the declining quality of the playa experience over the past few years, more and more of those "in the know" are avoiding it. Most people in our scene, are now of the "been there, done that" mindset.

Damn near every major org in the state has never done a show on those dates for a specific reason. Lack of numbers.
Yes, i do think the tide is turning, but unless you have money to burn do yourself a favor...
think small. Budget for no more than 150 thru the door

That would be the point of course! Thanks for all that info man, good to know that stuff. Didn't know there were huge electronic music camps out there, that's cool.

I wonder if Psy organizers that have done camps at BM were still able to enjoy other aspects of the festival...?           Abrahm

I would assume this is the plan anyways, right? This is his first west coast production, right? The 1st one is always just to get your name out there...           Spacecamppsyfari.com
