Dark Summer - Who murdered Lynch?

Dark Summer is Matja Dolenc from Slovenia. We have met online a while ago on Triplag, and exchanged some music and ideas over msn. I was happy to find his latest ep cd in the mail today here come my thoughts:

First off, the whole ssound of the EP is dark and grungy, with "punkrock" vibes all over it. It has almost a lofi sound, but in a produced and proffesional manner.

The first track Exit Forever has a nice punchy kick and a dirty bassline. surronded by atmospheres and sond fx this track builds up patiently, getting dirtier as it moves along. nice psychedelic atmos, fx and leads continue to pop in and out. i like it around 2 minutes from the end and onward when there are bassline changes and all sorts of wierd stuff going on. I also dig very much the idea of the minimal square wav lead sound, though i think it could have been emphasized some more. overal a solid track, certainly the style apeals to me. will let you in on a little secret... i have remixed this track, think it came out rather nice, still unreleased though

The second track called Dying Roses has a strong nighttime relentless kick/bass and good high hats and percussion content. this one is a bit higher level of production than the first one, at least to my own taste, and everything seems to sit well in the mix. the style is again very atmospheric, and patiently built. darkpsy twists come in at some point, very hypnotic now about two minutes in it. vocal sample break is long but ends in a great buildup! love the lead after the break, very cool automations, goes well with the distorted vocal line that is layered with it.

The last track on this EP is called "Dark Leads the Leader". This one has a more bouncy bassline to start off, but breaks into a roling one, with lots of psychedelic sounds coming in. flows real nice, but maybe a bit dirty. a lot of psy is mixed with low high hats, like this track, but i prefer more sizzle, like the previous tune. still - the arrange is very cool, with "question - answer" little lead/fx sound going on until another bass change with key changes as well coming in. seems the key changes did good to the bass sounds, cleaner now on the new key annd i'm bobbing my head happiy to this segment.

overal this one should be great for the hardcore punk/dark psy lovers, with the fast flow, psychedelic sounds and eerie feeling.

personally i liked the second track the best, with strong sentiments to the first track as well

enjoy!
