@diskOtek exactly what i am going thru man..cant really explain the conflict ....but u r exactly where i am hinting at!

@e-motion. well yea knowing a track is the main thing i feel about mixing but i dont have any sort of bias towards either of the so called genres i listen to both equally..just depends on my mood...

@ mquirk1...yes my friend now u too are gettin what i exactly meant...yea dark rarely has major melodies..but some of the layers r bitches to mix...

i was just confused about this very much!

thanx all !!

well........ it not exactly easy i think you know........ dark music(i prefer calling it psychedelic ;->) has a lot more tweaking and many many layers...... so once you understand each track and the structure.......... i guess it just comes naturtally to the dj... you know which track frequencies match..... which track takes it higher and higher........ with the morning you know soo many melodies...... you have to be careful with what vibe the next track sends out you know.... so there it mite be little tricky.......
also i find adding effects while mixing also helps like crazy with psychedelic (you can give it that additional puch before bringin in the next track)..... coz u can tweak the tracks a lil more. and that way just do something crazy and mix in the other traack... so that in all yr not destroying the vibes of any tracks but yr giving it yr own touch...( thats all thanks to traktor 3 for me
:-->).....

otherwise i wouldnt say dark is easier to mix....... but its just a different trip........

well... thats my 2 bits..... hope it helps in some way....

Sorry but that's blatantly rubbish.
I posted this before but it seems relevant to post it again: One 'morning full-on' track for you:

woah colin...thats a lot of layer.. MAN!!!

pavaka naah man..mixing is possible thats not an issue its just that most of the time you find a clash with the mix when u least expect it..but in dark not soo much clashing..i can go ahead and make a random mix and it will sound PERFECT but in the flip side need a lot of frikkin preparation - mind you am mainly reffering to recordings coz playing live the small glitches will not be heard ...but when u record it every second is heard clearly

@stranger..true some tracks have a lot of layers.....and some r frikkin CRAZY and to mix them u need to wait for the perfect time !! but imho not all

WHAT...IN NO WAY is dark easier to mix then any full-on...dark hardly has any breaks to swithc bass

who needs breaks for mixing? techno is the easier style to mix and barely has breaks. having no breaks is easier has it won't give you problems if you don't know the track.

PS: well i can even say that for me eskimo is the hardest to play in the set because it has so many breaks and most of them unexpected unless you know the track. altough mixing eskimo has an easy part because when you switch the bass it always feels good when you have a beat like that

I don't think it's a question of dark or melodic or whatever... There are some artists that make music that's dj friendly and there are some that do not. There's been times where a particular track shifts it's phrasing and that makes it really difficult to mix a track properly. These things happen, and it's up to the dj to either figure out how to mix that particular track, or not to mix it at all... If you actually pay attention to the track and do a little counting, you might figure out how to mix it properly or how to mix it with the right track where the melodies don't clash. Regardless of layers or whatever, it is the dj's job to know how to mix what that person enjoys. Otherwise there are multiple ways to mix a track that isn't just beatmatching... If you wanna mix something thats easy, try house... if you wanna mix the stuff you enjoy hearing and playing, study the tracks and learn how to make it work.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

@ neuromyth beatmatching is the answer to ur statement...

@ e-motion true eskimo is kinda hard but hey his stuff is sometimes very predictable when it comes to the breaks u know how the break is going to end i Love mixing his stuff in always found it very easy and the part about switchin the bass RIGHT ON .....

@ mubali fair enough....i do realise the best way to mix is by actually knowing the track..its imo the most important part about mixing...i am gettin back to the same point i started with about mixing random favourite tracks is soo much easier when the genre is more of night time music....

hell ur music is wild tho really diggin it off late keep it powerful!
