hey all..

well this is something i have been wondering for a long time...not really sure...whether am right or wrong....but i really find mixing dark stuff much much more easier than mixing any full on morning melodies...there always is that clash of 2 melodies that mite sound unpleasant...but in the case of dark stuff...how ever different the BPM's are it somehow fits in with proper beat match..prolly coz there is not too much clashing of melody..(well occasionally the beats mite conflict but very rare as compared to the flip side..)

is it only me..or does someone agree with me???

no disrespect what so ever to the djs/artists who play only dark(some of them have immense talent that i must say) just a general feeling....

respect!

it seems easier in the dark trance cause the quality of the realsed tracks are not as good as some other kind of trance ,so when you compare you work it s sound as good as top dark artist but not with full on maybe?i think it depends of the mixing skills of the artists but not the kind of music.

i love real psychedelic trance too , i think it s easier to mix cause you don t have a lot of work to do to sound like a released track compared to some other style, but sure it depends about the artist too .nothing against the dark artists, it s a kind i enjoy a lot to do.maybe it s the reason why we feel it easier to mix?

Shaqattack : I agree with you. And as PoM pointed out; the quality of the tracks, I disagree. If that was the case, that the sound quality on dark tracks were crap it would be harder to mix.           ________________________

Melodies don't really have anything to do with mixing, that's more of a composing issue. I think it can go either way, some derango-style dark stuff would be a bitch to mix, considering there's like 20 things going on at once, to give each there place in the frequency spectrum and stereo field would be quite a task. However, in full on type stuff, where a lot of times the amount of sounds going on at once is very low, to still be able to make the mix sound big and full with only a few instruments can sometimes be just as hard..

dark usually sounds worse than other genres
that's why reaching a "standard" sound is easier

Screw me! Looks like we got ourselves a bashers' thread numero #1000...

Cliché yet true, that as long as a DJ mixes with his or her heart, there are no rules and no borders... Of course, I believe that it's easier to mix the type of trance where your heart is with the music...

@ phobium..guess u were the only one who really understood what i was exaclty saying...

@ mike a...cmon man..give dark a chance ..it isnt as bad as u potray it out to be some of the artists make some wild psychedelic stuff...

@ mquirk1 well may not be the melodies exactly but there is something about the morning stuff that keeps clashing...all the time unless tested before hand...or lots of work has to be put in if you want to make a nice smooth tranistion not really the case in dark suff..

and NO mr scobbah .....no bashing at all all is fine...

@ hex hmm...but most of the dark stuff has million(figure of speech) layers adding so much into the track...try psykovsky for example...but his stuff is a bitch to mix unless you wait for the breaks which i hate doing!!!!

i have been making sets for over 2 years now...for a morning set its a bitch of an effort to sit n plan out...and stuff keeps clashing when u least expect it to...but dark stuff..jes pick out your random favourites..and your set to go no glitches and lovely transitions....

cheers...

i don't think style matters here if you're playing only one style. the real difficulty is to mix two full on with dark (i go from dark full on to morning full on but never tried pure dark and morning in the same set).
what i call hard to mix is tracks with lots of short breaks like eskimo.
but even harder is to mix tracks you don't know (i call know those tracks you already know what's going to happen next because you listen to it a lot)... probably thats why dark is easier for you

i think it matters!

i ve tried many styles and for me its easier to mix dark than fullon and fullon from progressive and prog from electro stuff.

of course i agree with you about the mixing many styles together thing but thats another story.

imo its that dark stuff are generally faster so theres less space between kicks bass and all the sounds dunno maybe wrong but i havent managed to explain it thoroughly!

Oh I thought you were talking about EQing.., yeah the non-harmonically agreeing melodies thing can be annoying when mixing full on. But the same thing would happen with dark psy with melodies in it, though that's a smaller number of tracksI suppose.
