Cronox was cool/Nice at the time but hey .. Time haz change , This is like come and say that 'Tau Pro' in the top (Of bass's vsts) , Or 'Scorpion' , This is not true today at 2012 ..
So take/Shake the dust And welcome to the real world m8 .

to me the most important thing is to time align well the bass and drums (and all sounds)to the kick ...then all/most synths drive well... but some may still be better i think it s directly related to the oscillator saw waveform. |

i found that making my kick from absolute scatch done the combination wonders,, ie soundforge , straight forward bran new sine, measured etc, then i use to wack it into Kontakt to pitch mod envelope it a few times,, got that idea from VAX vid years ago, it was the best one, beat all the synths... just depends on the time you have.

Hey cardinals those comments r a little harsh m8..no rules apply wen it comes to any sounds. And this is what makes psytrance so unique. I still love my juno106 bass sounds. Cronox2 still kicks ass with bass so does trilogy. Im not gonna spend money on new stuff wen theres no need. Dont u realize that alot of todays vsts or hardware synths are based on the fundamentals of predecessors.

I'm not saying Cronox2 is any better or worse than anything else for bass, use what u like the best.. I use it as well as a few other synths. The OP asked for synths suited to dark psy. Cronox2 is a tried and trusted vst for Twilight/fullon and dark psy artists that are signed and sell out festivals and parties,.....
. for The Cardinals Cartel guy to say its old and im in the past is wrong on so many levels |

Good choice/Selection of bass vst (For beginners) .
Use to work with alot , I release a track with 'Tau Pro' at 2007 (TechTrance style) So sure its a pro bass But i think (Some how) That he to thin and dry , So sure we
can add more machines on But the basis of the vst is old , So better (Imo) come in direct with an new technology of today , Tau Pro & Cronox are the same generation .
* Try use the 2 vst's of 'Tau Pro' - The black (What usualy ppls use) And the silver (The little one) - Imo more new version +/With an more and different bass sounds .

I think the year for plugin is not matter.
Most producers produce music with just one plugin for base..
Im a just poor guy and i dont have 150$ for cronox or some expensiv plugs..
I have plans some day invest only 100$ in Karma FX synth modular and thats it.
All other plugs for free or low price..
Tau pro is a good choice becouse it coast only 35$ and is a very very nice plug.. for bassline(alien 303,VB1 etc..)
BUILDING ON THE BUDGET FTW...

You didn't say you were on a budget in your starting post:). . If Tau pro does the job then crack on with the writing:)
Cronox2 is discontinued now, replaced by ver3 and not sold by Linplug, so by sourcing it from elsewhere (probably free) would be an option |
