hmm...early morning reflections
For me, the best "darkpsy" is ACTUALLY very akin in effect to the best horror movies
Slashers are what they are...but not all horror movies are slashers....for example...the SAW series, or that movie Untraceable....THOSE emotions, such as those you feel when you think about a situation like on in those films, for example in Untraceable where the man dies at a faster rate with simply the more people logged on TO watch him be killed....these movies don't have to scream at you, or gorefest freak you out, but they are fuckin freaky none the less, and that, for better or worse, is some SERIOUS transformative, defining, HUMANIZING art....good darkpsy's just like that!

Thank you!! Somebody understands! I mean I've been through some traumatic shit as well. Last year I got mugged from behind by two guys and almost got my whole face broken. I was punched like ten times in the face and woke up in the middle of the st. But listen to dark psy with horror samples doesn't bring that out at all. I dunno everyone's different I guess.

haha...the only person i've heard that is effectively challenging people is Catatonic Despair.

I wouldn't classify what psykovsky writes as horror trance....he actually plays a few new Catatonic Despair tracks in his 10 hour sets, so the sets that he plays can be challenging, but on a composition level, not so much.
Gil doesn't write anything challenging. He plays challenging music but as far as composing, I was stating that Tony was the only one who was WRITING music that is challenging

erm......
okay i know it's not cool to talk shit on hippy dippy psy forums (fora?) but someone HAS to say this.
catatonic despair didn't challenge a single damn thing for me. It mostly made me think, "will somebody PLEASE teach this kid how to mix and master a track correctly?" And who the hell was that yahoo doing the Eskimo dance next to him the whole time?

Dead Alive/BrainDead is by far goriest movie I know of....and it's really, really funny! what's wrong with being scary and still remembering to have some FUN?
I think that's my issue with the horror trance.
Somebody forgot to tell these kids that it's a party!
And don't get me wrong, I love me some million-miles-a-minute lunatic nightpsy....but really....

I danced my butt off to the catatonic set at worldbridge but I wouldn't say it was particularly horrifyingly dark and scary. maybe my dark and scary standards are unreasonably high. lol
I found it enjoyable though. it was definitely dark. but not terrifying. |

agreed on both counts!
and regarding psykovsky......
anybody who writes a song with a massive buildup/fadeout into some dude yelling "i love you!"again and again is not writing horror anything. Not even particularly dark....that guy is onto something else. and i like it!
