ALPHA QUADRANT - Band info
STYLE: dark electronic music (influences from: Industrial, techno, psy/goa/progressive trance, wave, ebm, ambient....) AQ is also one of the main founders (around 1999-2001) of the ORIGINAL helltrance sound.
We will put up some of the old "helltrance" stuff for free in the future.
AQ is Frank W. and hails from southern westphalia in Germany. Frank W. is involved in the electronic, metal, goth, ebm and industrial scenes since more than 12 years now. Since about 5-6 years he takes active part as a writer for several zines and also is doing his own music. He also has expanded his tastes to styles as goa/psytrance and trip hop.
The project in which he started was called "Split Effect", the other bandmember was mastermind Holger B. They had 2 releases: Controlcenter EP with 7 titles among them 2 hitsongs with "What Happened?" and of course the classic Split Effect song "Controlcenter" in 3 different versions. The other title was a coverversion from "Barrel Of A Gun" by Depeche Mode which found it´s way on the tribute CD by Depechemode.de. They also reached top positions on internet charts for example MP3.com and MP3.de and got some press coverage (article in local magazine, internet reviews etc.)
Holger had to move to cologne and give up music, because of his job. So Frank decided after some time of thinking and lazyness to do his own solo project called "Alpha Quadrant" The bandname reflects Frank´s interest in science fiction, movies and cyberculture. Since AQs first and Split Effects latest titles mixed darkness with techno and trance rythms and sounds, they are considered as one of the main founders of a sound that was named "helltrance".

I guess some ppl. won´t visit myspace, cause of the shitty programming and errors.... AQ still has a soundclick page i remembered yesterday.
I found that old early example of helltrance sound on soundclick: With "Der Teufel" (hell mix) it shows that AQ were in fact one of the helltrance pioneers, since the song is from 1999 or 2000. Never mind the sound quality please - it was a cheap mixing desk and at this time limited mastering/mixing skills:

Notice this mix is a long version which is 1 Min. TOO long, but original version dissapeared over the years....
Also available for your pleasure a song which orginal aim was to be a "parody" of the evil dark electro so fashionable in the goth scene. But it failed, so AQ made later 2 mixes from it - one of them (slower, nice vocals, geeeetars) can be heard directly. Admitted it is only suitable for open minded trance people, cause quite far away from this sound....

You thought AQ is dead ? Sorry to dissapoint..... new band info, tracks on myspace changed....track "Men On The Moon" soon available on one of the best electronic samplers to be released this year:
