how would i go about changing the "cutoff" value of the delay - each delay (lets say X3) to be less open and therefore more muffled...

which delay plugin has this built in?           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

Try this:

http://www.kjaerhusaudio.com/classic-delay.php

It has a hi-cut and a low-cut. Everytime the signal is repeated (feedback) the filters cut more hi's/ lo's, the sound gets more damped or less bass or both.           www.myspace.com/mentris

check the waves supertap, it has filters on both the taps and the feedback. a nice trick is to put a reverb in an insert after the delay, so the source is not affected, but the delay goes to the background.           "a new art came into my mind which only you can create, the Art of Noises, the logical consequence of your marvelous innovations."
