2 mubali: you say: "...I know that it doesn't actually add bass but it does add the harmonics, but at the same time it can sometimes add a sense a warmth that can be difficult to recreate otherwise."

I ask: if you add double harmonics 2 bass how can that add a sense of warmth? R-bass or Maxx bass is ment to add harmonics of lower octave in the frequency range of upper octave. By adding this you activate the psychoacustic effect and we hear the sound that acctualy is not present! Since bassline is playing the very first octave we can hear what is to add with R-bass? Octave below bassline belongs to whales and we can hardly feel its upper point when played extremly loud. Or I'm missing something?

You also say: "Just because you got a bunch of hardware doesn't mean you know how to make it sound good. That's the factor that seems to be forgotten in this discussion."

This is true! Nowdays hardware is less flexible than software. A state of art opto-compressor is still better than R-comp, but 10 R-comp are strictly superior to one, even if the one is a state of art comp.

Even hardware synths are getting behind software each day. Modular synths like adern flexor are so close to hardware that the only benefit of hardware is a fact that you can turn the lights out and watch your synth leds flashin' in the dark. The only thing I find still ireplaceble in digital-software domain is analogue TAPE recorder. AD converters that we use to bounce and write wave files are the weak spot of digital production unless you use an expencive state of art AD converters such as digy design.           "It occurred to me by intuition, and music was the driving force behind that intuition. My discovery was the result of musical perception"
