Pom - ive never taken acid. don't know how it makes music change.

The way I think of psychedelic is like what happens on mandelbrot colour cycling. I hear that same pattern in sounds - because:
they repeat, they change, they build, always consistent. With a difference - because mandelbrot series are static, whereas sound seems to blend and interact, creating more than there was. diversity.
There is development. The bass frequencies pulsate making my skin vibrate in consonance with the other sounds. Working together. But its also the images that are conjured... reminds me of biology, history, geopolitics. Everything originating somewhere, from something else, changing and interacting with all the others. Like a morally neutral energy of creation and destruction, my perception of that yin yang thing.

The song nil I think is beautiful because it just seems to come out of nowhere, oscillate around zero, be nothing, but dynamics with a zero sum. Still beautiful. Probably the name just put that idea in my head... but its so cool and imaginative if intended.

Generally music which is constructed in such a way that it stimulates these feelings I call psychedelic. From a composition point of look at it as juggling several balls at the same time, increasing the patterns made the more are added skillfully without blatantly destroying the existing patterns, but changing them, making them more diverse.
Bad composition breaks the pattern. breaks the trance. breaks the magic.

Still Its just what I think is beautiful. And I am trying to share.

Let me try repost the links.

also I realize this is not most peoples cup of tea but... I can't help but think that something like this had never been created before. I think its quite special even if not very listenable.

Yeah, and I bet no one has ever removed their own penis with the help of 5 rabid weasels

...doesn't mean they should.

To each their own. Autechre is not my pile of tea. Too messy and random for me.           If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Wills - its just another experience of being alive. What do the chinese say? for each new taste you have you will live a day longer?

PS. its not that bad? Did it make you think that?

How about this then? SO beautiful

Eh. It's not bad, but it doesn't excite me or take me anywhere interesting. If this came on di.fm psy-chill (a radio station I frequently listen to) or something, I wouldn't tab out of what I was doing to check the artist/track name.

Getting down to the nitty gritty of what is psychedelic to different people is very intriguing.

I wonder how radically different my perspective on music would be if I had classical training and didn't get exposed to psytrance on LSD at age 18.

In the most literal sense of the word, psychedelic means 'mind manifesting'. So, basically, anything that opens your mind up to itself and makes it ponder something interesting or exposes it to exotic stimuli that catalyzes said pondering. It is curious to me that certain music can spark such a flood of thought in one person and leave another flat.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Wills - U need some good weed too.

True story - After a weed trip I decided to do an MBA. You never hear that story about the "gateway drug". Done now. Not sure about the future.

Too many owners are narrow minded dicks who think more highly of their intelligence than they should, with abusive power as a way to solve problems instead of engaging. But economics is the master of everyone.

People have described some truly fantastic lsd experiences to me which I'm envious of.

and Im being a "cheesy poof" right now. "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8o9YxUUDHT0"

You've never done lsd - have you ever tripped on anything?

It feels very cliche to say it, but experiencing psytrance at a good festival (proper dancefloor + speakers) on good LSD is...

Well, it was and continues to be one of the most powerful experiences of my life...and I would undoubtedly be a much different (and probably more arrogant) person without those experiences.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Wills - Take it with a smile, coz we are all worlds apart.

I had some really good weed. Everything looked like a Picasso. The Dick was on drugs I realized!
