Do yourself a favour and listen to this album. Harmonies and melodies wonderfully organic and psychedelic.

Sorry, already listened to it and didn't like it. I'm not into that type of disco music, and I cant see the what all the fuss is about (if anyone can explain why this is soo much better, please do).
However, I do admit the Mexican Monkey (i.e. makes you get lucky) was a cool pun, as I like monkeys.

I think the driver is the harmony and prosody not the production, which is why its so different to everything else out there.
Its quite a role reversal, production in service of harmony and prosody. Everything built up around it instead of using it as a skeleton.
I think it sounds so different as to be a different genre.

When i first time heard this album, i was so glad that at least someone's has lot of fun in life, when so much you only hear sad stories nowdays You can sense that right away that they must feel good when they made this album.
Its full of fun and joy, time and space. But with this one you wont cry, will only feel cool moments..
One time i was working on the field this early summer and using loud working machine digging the ground so i had my earpads with radio in my ears and that radio station started playing one of their tracks, oo that was nice moment, i stop working and just listening and joying the sunny day for a moment How much more you can ask..

I was listening to it all day on repeat. Generally something interesting comes out so rarely that when I find it I kill it.
The reason I say its psychedelic is because of the swirling motifs built on top of the circling harmonies. I keep seeing pulsating "spiral" movement listening to tracks like motherboard and lose yourself to dance.
Willsanquil - I am genuinely interested in what you consider to be interesting and or psychedelic. Can you send me some specific artists and track names along with why you think they are either?
P.S. ryoji Ikeda isn't really an act without the visuals.

I think they could unsold many famous so called psytrance artists by their skills and ability in create psychedelic sounds and progressive arragements if they just want to, but they keep their style very classy and clean, so well produced that they have been raising the bar every time they made an album..
To me music is not = psytrance
To me music is = emotions

interesting/psychedelic...I'll forego sucking off twisted/dragonfly/tip/etc and focus on newer stuff because everyone knows about the old good stuff (at least round these parts)
These are all on youtube but isratrance is being retarded and won't let me embed so you'll have to look them up yourself.
Terrafractyl - Tenshu
This Terrafractyl track really gets me. I love the melodies and the sound design and its very driving for me. The 'now come to the land of oodah with me' segment never fails to send a shiver up my spine. I can feel that his melodies and harmony are very complex (or at least, very complex when compared to most psytrance) but I don't have the tools to say why or what it is about them that makes them work on me.
Artax - Space Warp
This Artax one too. Very uniquely Artax sound design, killer groove and I like the mix of silly and serious. Never have I heard '8 bit/video game' influenced stuff that is retro in that way but also extremely clean and high-quality.
Imaginary Sight - UM
This Imaginary Sight track has been a favorite of mine for a while now. The layering is very psychedelic for me and those leads just keep on giving. It's like being submerged in a very rich current of multicolored fish or something.
Hedonix - The Riddle Of Consciousness
last track I'll mention for now as this post is getting long, but I love Hedonix's sound design. The way they put different sounds together in intricate patterns along with some very catching/emotional melodies near the end always make this song very powerful for me. When that last 5:34-5:44 segment hits...mmm yes.
The things that are interesting and psychedelic to me are the 'unique/interesting' sound design aspects (as defined by me, obviously), melodies that 'catch', story telling through a well paced and complex arrangement in the service of invoking energy/emotion - something special, some message be it imagined or real, something that speaks to me and makes me want to dance or travel in my mind or whatever you want to call it. Hi Wills - I think the artax and hendonix have some foot stomping goodness.
But I'm more of a sucker for finesse and subtlety.
I would put my biggest surprise at those french boys DP as being able to continue and extend an idea without contradiction a few seconds later. I would further describe it as perpetual growth on top of development, instead of the start stop noisiness of the production whizzbangs.
I think its amateurish to not be able to do much more than collate eclectic bits which don't really add anything to each other and call it a song.
I don't think the guys you suggested are really capable of more than presenting short ideas and moving on to the next with squeaks and squawks in between. And the whole song becomes a riot of little pieces with no development or interaction.
Secondly, besides the integrity of the composition, the complexity of the melodies is really basic. Sort of like twinkle twinkle little star to dwaf dwaf. I can understand why though. its easy to work with easy melodies and harmonies.
Mind you not all trance is like that. think of astral.
I'm undecided whether to call it a difference in taste, or simply a difference in level of expectation of professionalism from performers?
P.S. the first song irritated me straight off the bat due to the ethnic samples. I know, those people are highly complex in different ways than economic, but I just can't bring myself to care. I suppose that one we can chalk up to differences of cultural values.
Thanks Wils for showing me your taste though. I think we will have to agree to disagree on what is and isn't boring.
Do you think I have failed to communicate why I support my choice over yours? Do you think
that my expectations should be valid relative to psytrance, or do you think they are out of place?

Did you check out the Terrafractyl track past the ethnic opening? IMO in terms of finesse and subtlety he's at the top of the game right now - his jazzy melody/harmony tickles my brain more than the old Astral stuff. Was never much of a fan of them - hyper melodic and most songs sound exactly the same. Also...Terrafractyl was in a symphony orchestra for 8 years and his Hypnagog stuff is also very unique and dare I say 'musical'
Sure, you can attempt to evaluate something in terms of its professionalism but at the end of the day I either like something or I don't - it either gets its hooks in me and makes me dance or smile or FEEL something. There is plenty of music out there that while I respect the ability of the composer or the performers to create/perform it....it leaves me completely flat and doesn't interest me. See 99% of all classical music I've heard, or 99% of all jazz music I've heard.
I don't feel anything when I listen to the new DP album (or, sigh, the new Shpongle....) - I just get annoyed at the god damn robot voices (which I have previously enjoyed in some of their prior albums) and the (to me) boring songs build up around the annoying vocals, whereas the tracks I listed all build up this story inside of me when I listen to it and I hear all of the time and effort they made in placing the bits and bobs where they did and its magical to me
So yeah, I think we'll have to agree to disagree on what is boring but I don't think either of us were under the impression that we were going to be 'right' about this.
I don't think that you have failed to communicate the reasoning behind your choices per se, but I don't know if I have the capability of hearing the things that you hear in the way that you hear them that leads you to your conclusions. For instance, I can hear a melody and say I like that but I don't know why. I have no ear for harmony so complex chord progressions etc are lost on me on a conscious level.
As for your expectations relative to psytrance...well...if you're looking for melodic/harmonic complexity then modern psytrance by and large is going to be pretty disappointing.

Pretty cool, even i feel a bit rush in some parts.. I dont know if you get what i mean by rush, but to me it is one of the most annoying feeling in the world in general, but musically can be show up by rushing the natural movement in arrangement.. making the emotions of music unreal. Rush free music can be differ in tempo but always makes you relaxed, it gives you the time to breathe along with music and takes you inside to the whole story. Put you to the flow.
When with some music you can feel yourself totally outsider, good music always respect the listeners side too. Check this out, maybe you did already, full of time and space.. plus well produced at time 2003.
