hello all,

just a question i need to ask. What are everyones preferences when it comes to where you put a small break (e.g. 1 bar) in between say 8 or 16 bars? Do you place it just as the last bar is ending or just after its ended breaking in the first bar of the next 8 or 16 bars etc?

cheers.

i generally use it in the ending as it is much more easier to continue the track.

Obviously its a matter of choice and you may need to place the break in the start of the next bar (as the track requires it), but then this requires lot of hard work rearranging the other parts. so, normally i tend to avoid this..

good question!

Orbit - there's no right or wrong way. Use your ears. Try having no breaks at all, or having one after 7 1/2 bars. Try having a break 3 bars long, or only one beat. Above all, try and do something different every time.

Do what sounds right, not what others do.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Lets say the default is to break the 8'th a bit, 16't a bit more and to break the hell out of the 32'th bars (could start with 31'th).

After finishing the sceleton you'd might wanna expand some breaks to the next bar (8'th to 9'th; 16'th to 17'th ...).

It sure is matter of style, but I find building this stuctural way very effective and easy. Much easier to break a built piece for adding a groove, than to groove a mess.

Now I predict ppl will jump with all kinda : "Only good what's good for you !" and "Use your ears !" replies, but I guess I did answer your question.

Have fun !
