this is a soo cool topic man!
there also was a huge topic here about 1 year ago but can't find it !
also this topic is endless and solution may vary according to the musician, his habits and the environnement
personally ifound that REVERSE you habits for some days is mind opener!
-deprivation of sleep -->you're rite here that's why after parties we have the fucking blasting better ideas!
-mood----->for me is a huge component anything who bring a good mood is welcome, but you know da story bro, we need to find healtier ways
the problem facing that is:
a musician who aims at good music usually don't want to fuck around yoga practices whitch are sooo healty but also take infinite time and patience to develop correctly ..
so many of us take da short way, no blame 4 this imho
we're making art, if inspiration comes from bad habit we still take the bad way, not because we're scumabg but because we put art over other things
at least many of the friends i talked about
this subject agree with this.
Also it a cat-who-bites-his-tail- vicious circle
if your music is flowing nice and good, you enter in a good-mood state nd so on

There are times when I swear I open up sequencer and my hands move all by themselves... couple hours after and I have a nice idea layed out.
Other times I can work all day long forcing myself to focus and develop a track in progress... tiring and frustrating.
Unfortunately I can't yet understand what is it precisely what brings the muse into the room.
I have come to the conclusion that there are just better days than others... when I just can't do shit I make presets and fx to use later, then my future me will thank. |

Going to say the obvious thing and although it may be frowned upon by some people, acid is my favorite cure. Taking some every now and then makes sure I never run into writers block...to the point where there are not enough hours in the day to get all the ideas flying in my head, recorded down to audio.
Peace out.

Yes, a drop once in a while can help, especially to remind us of the outer worlds, but:
-It's hard to focus while on too many drops. It's really easy to go into a mental freeze, and just glue on the screen and loose yourself in your thoughts;
-It's not something you can turn on or off, so you must have a good and clear 6/10 hour window;
-Your body get used to it and it usually takes me 7 days to loose the habituation, so if you "need inspiration" today, it'll only work again with the same power past a week-> and you only have 52.1775 weeks a year.
-While producing, I tend to listen to a 8 minute track for about 3 days. While on the drops, to listen to the same loops for a couple of hours can take a toll on he mind.
But, the two things are highly mixable. I just like to let the creative side come out, and play with my tunes or tweak synths making new sounds and patterns for a few hours than going into serious producing, it end out being more productive and fun!
But about inspiration, try limiting your producing time. For the past 2 years I've been loaded with work, and I'm taking a M.Sc. at the same time, and I really don't have time for music (unfortunately, but if everything goes ok I'll be back and running in 2 months ), so I take any free time I can get and open up a copy of Ableton on my work pc. The time limit has me so bad that I'm always inspired to make music, and always have ideas flowing!
Maybe you exhaust you creativity out, and need to do other things to get new perspectives.

oh I am not talking on making music whilst tripping, the cursor on the screen start doing funny business hehehe.
I am talking about making music after dropping at a party or for a nice walk in some forest, beach...swimming in the experience and then start making music the next day(s).

Well then we're saying the same through different ways my friend Nectarios! Taking a hit and going is just a simple and easy way to get a new and fresh perception on things..
It also helps to have a goal while making a tune: something that you can direct yourself to, and so you can eventually reach it.. if you don't have a goal, than go do something else until you feel like making music again

Find a girl is also a good adice.
Really,it broke my one month period of which I wouldn't touch Ableton or even look at it.
It ain't with no reason,that all the so called muses in the history are infact,ladies .
  From all the things I lost,that sandwitch cost me most :)
