Hay.. im running cubase and reason through rewire. My problem is that as the song progresses and more and more vst and wav files are addet it end up with my cpu overloading at playback stops.
My comp is a 3000 mHz Intel Dual. 4 GB ddr2 533 ram. and all my harddisks are sata. i use a Terratec Producer Phace 26 USB soundkard and i use the ASIO drivers provided with the soundcard. still no matter what i try to do in the asio setup i can´t do anything to minimise the cpu load. I have tried updating the terratec drivers from ther site.. no change.. i´ve tried installing ASIO4ALL.. USB-ASIO.de drivers but nothing works...
Is it some settings in windows i need to change ..?? or is it some settings in cubase that i´ve missed..??
I´ve looked evry single windows and soundcard and cubase tweak tutorial that i couldt find but nothing has helped så far..
Hope that some one might have had the same problem and have a solution..

How many VST plugins are we talking about here? It could be that you're just overtaxing your system with what you're asking it to do. The more real-time processing you add to your track, the more CPU it takes - this is like a law of physics, unless you use the quantum alternative of something like a Scope system or Powercore. It's always good to use your CPU efficiently thouh so sfter you bounce down parts from Reason into SX, make sure you turn off all the FX in that chain and select the low-bandwidth options on the instruments that you're not going to need any more. They might only make a slight difference but every little helps. Also check you have your processor scheduling set to 'Background Proceeses' rather than 'Programs'.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

export your precious sounds to wave files and chop em up in cubase. Thus freeing up your cpu           Monitoring devices, know where you go

Not necesserily, you can do whatever you want with the exported one, but keep a copy of it in reason to go back to it and change, as colin said, unload anything that you don't use at the moment, just turn off rewire channels on those you exported and export within cubase, not from reason to import afterwards.           Monitoring devices, know where you go

If you have FX connected inline with your instruments, ie. the signal goes instrument->FX->mixer/rewire, turn off all the FX connected with a sound once you've exported the sound. Also if you look on some of the instruments, they have a button on their panels which switches on or off various options to do with their quality; the high-quality options take more CPU so set it one way to export, and the other (low-quality) way afterwards.

Don't forget that Reason is optimised for CPU efficiency rather than necessarily for sound quality... this is why it's possible to get a better sound by mixing your Reason track inside Cubase.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
