Hey all,
I am writing a track with a friend. He has a desktop and uses a Virus as his soundcard. I have a laptop and am using just the onboard soundcard.
When I take the Cubase project from him and put it on my machine, there are no errors or warnings and most of the track sounds the same. Just the bassline (CS-80V) sounds different and is overdriving. See the image below.

The bass goes way louder on my machine than my friend's machine. Any ideas why this might be happening??
Thanks... |

No idea why it happens.
Some options: is the setting in the synth the same? Levels the same? Are the volume knobs at the same place? Gains the same?
But what you could do is make a bounce. And use that while you are making the rest of the track. Then when the final bounce is done you go back to his place and make the bounce of the whole track with the original bassline.

Yeh,
I find that just turning the level down on the mixer for that one track makes everything OK. Then when I give it back to my friend he turns it up...
Just very strange behaviour from Cubase... Could be a bug. The MIDI output volume from the VST is identical on both machines. Its the mixer volume that seems too loud.
Weird. |

1. check if you have identical versions of the synth in both machines.
2. also check the same about the plugins you're using at this channel.
happened to me before, that some upgraded versions of fx, wouldn't perfectly recognize the settings of the previous versions.
3. that's a longshot but i'd recommend to check any possible weird routing you've might have done by mistake. (both in mixer, or in VST connections panel)
