Which do you use.. and why ?

is there anything really different about the 2? are the generic plugins better or worse on whichever of the 2. i'd like to hear some other artists input on this.. i myself use cubase.. i am planning on upgrading my studio bigtime, and since i see so many ppl using logic(mac) nowadays, i just might get a mac to try it out. or is it just some kind of fashion...

im sorry if this thread already existed i didn't find it in search.. and always found everyones opinion on this curious...

i love logic

mixing engine, plugins, gui, workflow... all great

but i think if you use cubase already just stick with it.

They are both sequencers and will both do the job. Just as Sonar, Digital Performer, Samplitude/Sequoia, FL etc will do the job. The rest is up to user preference.

i have noticed most producers who live from their music and pay their softwares are on mac, the other on cubase seeing like this , logic is more professional but don t mean it s the best, the best is the one you like...

There isn't a PC version of Logic anymore. A few years back Apple bought Logic and made it Mac only. If I remember correctly the last PC version of Logic was around 5 and now-a-days I think they are somewhere around version 7. I was considering which one to buy when that move happened and was actually leaning more towards Logic. Luckily I didn't quite have the money then and the big sale happened before I could buy it, otherwise I would have been stuck with a very expensive sequencer that I could never upgrade on the PC platform.           New Album: Jikkenteki - Flights Of Infinity

Yes its Logic platinum , version 5.5 that u still can run on a pc .
Imho , Logic has alot of great build in plugs from the start and cubase not so great sounding (in the ones that come with the standard prog ) looks like there are more vstis , for cubase later on , but ofcourse there are programs that can convert one format for another , dont know how efficient this is working with all of them . Its a matter of taste .. i think i read the summin was the same , and if u record or play a wave , thru the same mic and speakers .. i would guess that you get precisly the same results . ( maybe not if u put in some thoughts before .. and colour the sound with your thinking )
The thing that kills the creativity is the ongoing battles and discusions on what is better than what . The thing that is better for you might not be the same as for your neighbour . What ever u can get you work done in , is the best .. beeing sonar , reason , logic, fruity ,renoise , cubase vst 32 and bla bla .
And again , all is becoming a fusion of the same .. Macs having intel now and so on ..
Just find the one u like urself .Ofcourse there are some parameters like smooth running computers and so on ,.. macintosh always had a nice design , nice ideas and looks , and in some way i think thats also why alot of bigger studios choose to run pro tools or logic , cuz the machine was just working properly , and it lookes flyy .. well
just my 2 cents            3ó BooOoM ShanKaRA 3ó

I use cubase because when I first saw it it was completely logic to me and I could use it on the spot, whereas I had no chance to get logic make a single piip for me when I first use it.

I heard that many logic users experienced the same with cubase.

Funny

Maybe you might find this interesting:

sound and recording magazine in germany (one of the top mags over here) tested cubase 4.01 to check out boot camp and how DAWs ran under windows compared to mac osx on the same computer. they turned up some interesting results, to say the least.

they used several different plug-ins to see how many voices or instances you could get on cubase 4 on xp and osx, and compared with logic and live.

NI Massive voices (cosy case preset)
cubase 4 on osx voices: 176
cubase 4 on xp voices: 180
live 6 on osx: 140
live 6 on xp: 174
logic 7 pro on osx: 140

Arturia Minimoog v voices (ce_softbrass preset)
cubase 4 on osx: 92
cubase 4 on xp: 100
live 6 on osx: 80
live 6 on xp: 96
logic pro 7 on osx: 80

Guitar Rig Instances
cubase 4 osx instances: 47
cubase 4 xp instances: 49
live 6 on osx: 41
live 6 on xp: 32
logic pro 7 instances: 49

their summary: "of the hosts we tested, cubase can run the most synth voices and vsti instances". test system was mac pro 2.6 (2x2.66 ghz dual core intel xeon) with 2gb ram and rme fireface 800/400. it's in issue 1/07, page 41 (in german, obviously).

It seems that on the same computer cubase allows more performance than logic.

But thats just one test. it's difficult to extrapolate that to general working situations.
