This was it for me too. The only real comparisons:
Cubase - Vastly superior audio editing, which produces profoundly deeper "production" effects that stop the "oh hey I can tell what synth that is" type situations.
Logic - Vastly superior built-in synths that can't be used in any other DAW. Hopefully audio editing was improved in Logic9, I haven't checked it yet.
Basically in every OTHER way both programs can do everything the other one can. The best advice I can give for a beginner is to use whatever your more experienced friends use so you can learn from them.
Oh yeah, uh, Logic seems to have a nasty habit of releasing a "new upgrade" every year to extract a few more hundred dollars from loyal customers. Steinberg seems to wait 2 years between versions before hitting you with an upgrade tax.
I don't think I've seen a x.5 version free upgrade from EITHER of these companies ever...

I personaly think that Cubase is easier to learn...
IMO Logic has the steepest learning curv. I have not tried to use logic in a long time though, I guess it could be different now.
If you already have it and have learned to work with it then stay and keep learning.
I use Cubase but Love the sound of Logic too.

We use Cubase 5 Studio and it's really satisfying but I like the sound of Logic and it's native plugins aswell. If Logic ever integrate the audio/midi editing that cubase has to offer it's a done deal. But so far Cubase is doing the job a lot easier for us. All though I have been working with Cubase for so many years I'm not sure I could just swap it for something else.
And the fact that Waves plugins is not available in OSX enviroment makes it less attractive at the moment.
