hi guys.
It's not a flame war, so don't start it.
Let's assume I have:
* a mac
* I have access to all 3 software tools from the subject
* I'm loading 10 stereo audio channels
* I'm starting adding reverbs on each channel.

I want to know who out of the 3 gives me the most amount of effects.

The overall idea is to see what package *utilizes* the computer in the most efficient way.

I do know the interface approach of all 3 of these packages.

Is this question... legitimate in your opinion ?

Thanks for cooperation!

of course, the idea is I am using only software effects!
Assuming all the hardware setups are identical and supported by all 3 platforms.

i work PC and Nuendo (dont use its plugins, except one or two), if i was on Mac id go Logic eyes closed, have to agree i has better summing (or a more "round sound" ?) and much better plugins, ProTools is not midi platform, plus their products are expensive.
Between Nuendo and Logic i dont know which is more cpu friendly, how heavy are Logic's native plugins, but are propably at the same, if you have fast enough computer you dont have to worry

If you have to choose a sequencer, if that whats youre asking, go Logic imo

Weird question, how about this sollution:

Upgrade your computer with the fastest CPU with most cores and head for the sequencer YOU prefer to work with.           Demand recognition for the Armenian genocide 1915

I think there are tests outthere which did investigate similar things.

Use google, look for "performance, comparison, logic, cubase"
or so... I believe that I've heard somewhere, that logic has much better performance on LOW latencies then cubase. But above 256samples it's similar.

But anyways, the differences are definitly not that big and how the software suits you is a MUCH more important factor. So I'm with vegetal on this one.

I have a quad 2.66 MacPro and I have yet to max it out with Logic native plug ins. I never have to bounce anything, which is a blessing when I remember making music on my 733Mhz PC in 2001, using Logic 4.

actually bouncing gives a lot of new possibilities. if i ran out of ideas in midi and tweaking vst synths, i bounce something down and start curring and reversing.
anyways one should think what he is up to and choose the daw. pro tools is the best for recording. cubase has non-destructive audio processing. logic has great plugins. maybe that's just a cliche in my mind, but i guess there is much truth in it.

Agreed. I had to always bounce whatever synth patch I had on my Doepfer/Analog Systems modular (for about a year and a half it was THE only synth I had and being the analog die hard that I was, I was refusing to use Logic synths) and move on to more processing of the audio regions, carrying on with recording the next synth patch and actually getting things done.

But I can always do that today as well.

Considering that Pro Tools has the option for you to choose how many processors are being used for it, I would say it will probably allow you to load most generators and effects. It would be interesting to see a chart for that kind of thing.           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

Is processing power such an issue with what's on offering today? I am sure there are some plug ins that are proper CPU hogs, but the power available to us today, for the cost it is offered, is immense!

Although I am a die hard Logic fan, all sequencing/audio packages mentioned in this thread are more than enough to make slamming music.

You can't go wrong with any of them.

Bare in mind that you can rewire Logic into Pro-Tools...Logic synths, TDM plug ins with Pro-Tools' audio editing features.
Game, set and match.

Peace out.
