Its hard to say I just upgraded to cubase 4 and it has some really nice new features but they suck CPU like crazy I have 2 gigs of ram and 1.67ghz processor on my powerbookG4 and it hangs with about 4 synths and 1 or 2 effects on each of them im kinda upset about that. However my roommate just bought logic pro 7.2 and has had alot of trouble with the midi system crashing and the program completely crashing but you will have problems with any DAW. I like the quick audio editing capabilities in cubase.

The Logic vs. Cubase thing is a painfully tired endless raging debate that will never be answered satisfactorily.

The "which is better" question is pointless, they are 2 professional products in direct competition with each other, each can do cool things the other can't and they are both generally equivalent (Cubase has superior audio editing features, Logic has better bundled instruments). Both are used to make top-notch professional tracks.

If you are just starting out, a far more valuable consideration would be: What do your local friends use? If you are planning on working with friends, what do they use?

If you have a friend that makes tracks and can give you hands-on lessons and help you get started, get whatever they have.

why limit your self to Cubase and Logic?
you also got

Cakewalks Sonar, Samplitude, Protools, FL studio, Traction, EnergyXT, Ableton live ect ect.. it all depends on the featuers you want and need

check the list here

though cubase and logic and sonar are probably the most known and used sequencers. ohh protools and DP aswell
