its hard to describe, ive been looking for ages now for this. its a bit tricky:

lets say i got a audiotrack in cubase, much automation is going on, and now is the point where i want to bounce the whole thing, BUT!

i dont want to bounce, i want to RECORD the audio track into another audio track directly into my daw.

i know such a thing exists because it worked with my old computer!

i just made a new audio track, soloed the desired tracks i want to record, clicked at the record button at my new audio track and PAAAM it recorded the stuff i soloed WITH all the automation whats going on like if i record any signal (like youtube, or any running sound on my computer). this also worked with miditracks!

it really saved time, no effort!
do i have to route something, or ist it a soundcard issue? pleas help me out!

i read something about the freeze-function, but thats not the same!

cheers

1. create a group track.
2. bus your audiotrack in that group.
3. create new audio track.
4. select the group track as input.

you're done.

What is the difference between bouncing it and recording it live? Except that recording takes longer..           soundcloud.com/supergroover

1. maybe lazy to search and import the bounced file

or

2. any live modulation, feels more alive to the creator (and it does a bit yes)

In cubase and probably most other programs you can tick a box so it will create a new audio file for the bounce. Life made easy           soundcloud.com/supergroover

the same method as if you would record vocals or guitar, just record sth else.If you know how to do it,just select another channel and record it.It has its big advantages ,more than bouncing for sure.

@ supergroover
You can add sth new to it on the run in a rush.Onto your 'finished' automation, that you would normaly just bounce - you can add this extra sth to it.

You are much more faster at first. With experimenting.Try it than you will see.Life playing and recording or thinking long and constructing are two worlds. It's like freetyle or a planned construction.
Both are good.
I like often to make a fusion of it.

You don't need to work through your automations too long.IF you have a good run than your automations can be on your recording too.

Some effects sound different when bounced as if played in real time, depends on some plug ins I guess..

There is for sure much more.

&

orgytime I don't know why it does not work for you,you have to select alot in cubase even to get the vocals recorded I know.Soundcard etc..
I work now with these setting for a while but I regularely forget them when I change after some time hehe.

I will look up in my projects later and write you (probably tommorow).

SX3 can't do what you ask without looping back the stereo output from the soundcard into another input. Some soundcards can do this internally but it's still not always the best solution for quality, because it generally means running things through the soundcard mixer (as well as the SX mixer) which can sometimes degrade the sound due to eg. sample-rate conversion which you can't switch off, or adding other soundcard inputs to the mix, and perhaps even D/A-A/D conversion before it gets back in to Cubase. Much better and quicker to add your live automation beforehand, then export audio... there is an option to automatically copy the exported file into the project folder and import it back into the track; surely this would be much more convenient?           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

in this case i dont see the point of doing a realtime recording in cubase, more than that its maybe feels simpler and contains less mouse clicks, otherwise why not just export it? if there is a plugin that dont work with offline export you can always try realtime export

Still it would be a handy option to be able to do what you ask for, i would use it.. but if it is the case that Colin explain you are better off exporting

Still i do some external recording using my digital porta, sometimes best with S/pdif for best quality, but in case of no S/pdif i use the audio outs and record.... works well when i find some cool mistake i want to record like when you turn off a effect and it makes this super wierd noise, so i route the outputs to the recording machine

I record in real-time when I'm bouncing down something that's going through my analog compressor...           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

I'm so happy this option is possible.
Right now using a synth (for free beast(thanky Freeflow)) where it is not possible to automate everything.
Even not his awesome arppregiator functions.
With this technique there is a concrete way out so the mission can succeed .
....
..just bouncing would be just a down if not a frustration beacause of some limits.
