well i never rewired ableton to cubase and never saw RME routings, however 2 questions appeared in my head:
is direct monitoring enabled in cubase?
do you turn on monitor button on the audio channel in cubase?

I guess the idea is the same as when i rewire reason to ableton where i put an audiochannel to "monitor in", thats what you need to do in cubase

hm. as i understood the signal from Ableton is coming but doesnt recording? seems that rewire works right but Cubase is configured to record physical Line In of your RME soundcard (and not the rewire signal which is actually an Audio Out). What you need is to record this signal and put it again into Cubase. I use Juli@ and it has a simple program (Direct Wire) that allows to record the signal from ASIO to WDM, from MME to ASIO and so on. If you dont have anything like this in RME you can try to connect Optical out to in, configure your Audio Inputs in Cubase (add a new Bus), then create a Audio track, define the second Bus in its input, turn SOLO on Ableton channel and record the signal. However you'll need an optical cable for this.
I never did that so there can be some issues around connecting and configuring. Maybe someone who actually met this situation can help.
