If anyone has any helpful advice on how to streamline some of these processes, I'd love to hear it:

I love the integrated Time Stretch in Cubase SX, and it's nice to have the Pitch Bend right there too. My issue is the amount of processing time Time Stretching and Pitch Bending takes: almost 60 full seconds to pitch bend or time stretch just a few seconds of audio. I don't have a powerhouse computer, but an AMD 2500 with a gig of RAM isn't exactly a slowpoke either.

The reason it bugs me is that Sound Forge does both of these functions in about 1/2 a second, regardless of sample length. If SF can do it, why can't Cubase?

I've tried switching between the various stretch algorhythms, turning off tempo correction, etc and I can't seem to make much of a dent in the processing time. I like using SoundForge, I've had a lot of fun making my own kickdrums & whooshes/stops etc, so I'd be happy to use both Apps at the same time if you could drag 'n drop or cut and paste audio, but neither works. So whatever time I save doing shit in SoundForge I waste hunting through your audio directories to load the samples back into the Cubase SX Audio Pool. Also, SF doesn't use VST plugs like Cubase.

So is there a way to make cut and pasted audio from Soundforge available in the clipboard for pasting to Cubase SX? Is there some basic thing I'm overlooking? Or, is cutting and pasting from Wavelab or some other audio app supported? Call me impatient, but this has been bugging me as of late so if anyone has good advice, thanks...

SX on my XP2600+ doesn't take that long... I'd suggest there are other issues going on with your PC?           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

I don't know, it seems like it's only that one thing. Like I said, equivalent operations are lightining fast in Sound Forge so that's why I don't just write it off as "what it takes".

I'm on a fairly fresh XP installation, regularly updated, that's regularly defragged and checked for spyware recently.

Now that I think about it, my last few tracks have been on 24 bit audio by default and most of my samples are 16. Perhaps all the resampling is dragging things down? Maybe it re-samples every time since it's creating a new version of the audio file with every processed effect.

Sounds like Colin doesn't have the same problem I do, anyone else notice this? Or not? If no one has this same problem, chime in, it'll prove there's something I need to find and fix...           http://soundcloud.com/aeon604

Very strange problem you have there Aeon, i stand with Colin as where it lasts only a couple of seconds to timestretch, pitchshifting usually takes a bit longer... but also endurable. Did you try making a new project with only one stereo audio track and see how fast that is... i don't have an answer for the resampling stuff. I tried it just now and i can tell u that stretching a 24 bit - 4,5 sec sample on my laptop with xp and 2,66 processor to 75% takes not even 3 seconds....
i know that when you have xp sp1 installed and let the computer update itself, instead of putting the sp2 on it yourself, things mite get sluggy... ok, let us know.. good luck !

There are different algoritms cubase can use to time-stretch. Maybe you can solve it by choosing a different time-stretching algoritm under 'preferences'.

I also noticed that time stretch takes longer when my vst performance is above 90%. When i have less in memory the time stretch is faster. TRy FX freeze or turn off some plugins and then see if its faster.

I tried the different algorhythms, and to test it started a new empty track and did a test time-strectch on a 20 second long sample. It still takes almost a minute.

I checked the 24bit vs 16bit thing too... no luck. I guess I'm just going to have to learn a bit more patience.

I really wish you could cut and paste audio direct from Soundforge. Does anyone know if you can cut and paste from Abelton Live or maybe Wavelab? Is .wav audio able to go through the clipboard, in theory? It doesn't work from Soundforge but I'm wondering about these other apps...

Open the Task Manager (<Ctrl><Alt><Del>) and see if there are any other processes taking significant parts of your CPU power while you're doing a timestretch. (Hint - there shouldn't be any)           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

I don't think you can cut and paste on windows. on mac it possible with restrictions. I remeber that cubase has some settings for external editor. you can use wavelab instead of the built-in audio editor. It might work with SF too. search the preference.
about the long time streching, you might be short on memory.           "a new art came into my mind which only you can create, the Art of Noises, the logical consequence of your marvelous innovations." Russolo, 1913

stretching and pitch shifting (via the audio process menu) in SX seems slower than doing it in SF. Regarding the copy pasting from SF to SX, it is not supported, but generally it is possible, as seen in other kind of programs. The fastest you could do would be to always work with new samples on the desktop. In your audio-pc (or your audio dedicated O/S installation) your desktop wouldn't be very busy. So just save on desktop in SF (after a first save there, it will remember the location) and then press WINDOWS+D to minimize everything, click and drag your sample [do not release] hold ALT and press TAB as many times as it needs to find SX, release ALT to see cubase, continue draging (you shouldnt have released the mouse key yet) to the desired place on the arrangement and release.           http://triplex.trance.net

Or you can just hold the mouse (while you're dragging the sample) over the Cubase button on the task-bar, and it will altomatically restore the window.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
