Why PAN changes do not affect the MIDI channels in Cubase SX(they only affect the built-in VSTi's)???Not in the piano roll, not in the main automation...did I miss something???It works in Logic & in FL Studio... |

I think it is up to the VSTis whether they should handle the _MIDI_ panning information or not. Most synths only care about the noteon and noteoff events, (plus custom midi ccs) and will ignore the panning info i think....
On the other hand, panning the output audio makes perfect sense, so you can always do this, and automate this. Go to the mixer, hit the w or r button and head over to VST Instrument Automation, as normal....
In cubase there is a strong separation between MIDI data and audio streams.... I mean the way you can write a load of midi data then maybe later decide which VSTi to pipe it to. In some hosts (e.g. Orion, and I think FL but I am not sure) the instruments are tied much more closely to the MIDI data, so you wont see these two different kinds of panning.

Well, there are 3 ways to control panning automation.
One is by sending midi ccs. Not all VSTi's support this, the cc number may change, and it has "steps" in it, since it can only accept 128 values.
Second is by automating the panning value in the VSTi. Just press that W button and move the pan knob.
The third, and the recommended way (imo), is to automate the panning on the audio channel that the VSTi generates. Press W in the mixer to open an automation channel for it.

THNX guys!!!I actually tried to control the pan via the mixer-W...still nothing...and the same with the volume...I got one more question:Is there a regional automation in Cubase SX,like Hyper Edit or something?I work a lot with MIDI and I need an accurate automation...or maybe I should switch to Logic...Again THNX for the advice!!!(And sorry if I bodering you:)) |
