I made a few tracks in Reason...but now I'm getting into cubase. I read here the soundengine of cubase is much better then reason's.
So I want to master my songs in cubase. But I need some help and tips. Anyone working like this...share your tips please.
What I've done :
Rewiring every channel in reason to cubase trough the reason hardware interface.
Then cubase creates for every channel a track on the mixer...
Now my questions:
1.For bass and kick take a mono channel?
2.When e.g. a stereo synth comes in channel 4 & 5 in cubase how can I edit these two mono channels as 1 stereochannel ?
3.Do you use FX(reverb, delay, flanger,...) from reason or is it better to take vsti-effects?
Thanks already ! ;-) Probably more questions coming soon |

1 kick mono, bass up 2 u, as superglue said
2 put channel 4 and 5 playing and rest in mute, bounce it (export), and import it as a sound file, at least is how i did in logic when used reason...
3 vst always, never used a fx from reason...
and I wouldn't use reason mixer also...

allright! thanks already!
Now I wouldn't use the mixer in reason, it causes a big loss of quality. So I connect everything in reason to the hardware interface and manage it with the cubase mixer.
So already two questions answered...but I think there must be a way to manage two (audio)channels (or even more) as something like a grouped channel. So you can put the same EQ, VSTi's,... on this 'grouped' channel. And if you want to eg automate volume, pan,... the same way for two or more channels you can just do this once for this grouped channel.
???
I hope there is some function in cubase that can handle this topic... |

send both tracks to a bus, and in the bus channel u can put effects for both...
instead of sending them to the master, u send to bus, and then bus to master...got it?..all I say is always regarding logic, but i suppose cubase should be same

Create a Group channel and route channels 4 and 5 from Reason to this group channel. Pan Reason channel 4 hard left and Reason channel 5 hard right. Keep both their levels at 0dB.
Now you can treat that group channel as a stereo instrument channel.
As for FX, some of the Reason effects are ok IMO; the new reverb and Scream distortion unit are pretty damn good. VST plugins are easier to automate though, and personally I'd still go for a Waves reverb over Reason most of the time. |

i build the line as i want in the reason -and than i take it out as audio---and than i pass it as i want to the sx.
you can than choose it mono or stereo/what ever you want--keep the kick mono...

you render the audio in reason?
I think you better bounce it in cubase (trough rewire) because the sound from reason is not very good imho... |

hi man...
the rewire it is a good way to lets say,"earn" another instrument, but for me i don't like this way of work---even on the good sound because i have a great sound in the way that i wrote you.you can take the parts that you make to the cooledit/wave lab/soundforg or nay edit that you want and than edit it again.in the sx after just make normalize and than you have a great part/slice with good sound---i don't feel something wrong in that..
but you need to choose the easy way of work to yourself!this one is the best for me(even that i work also in rewire) |

yes offcourse you choose the way that you like the best!
But when I render a part in reason I have to put on it mostly a noisegate because of the high noise-level.
Keep up the good work!! |

i usually also bounce to audio from reason. (all tracks separately)
i do it in 24 bits/96kHz
then i sample it down to 16 / 44.1 in soundforge.
i do this to get rid of the nasty hi freqs which reason tends to produce.
with this process the audio is much smoother then rendering it at 16 / 44.1 from reason.
then i take all the tracks back to a bigger sequencer to do some arranging.
grts,
aka!., |

you need to take care that the volume in the reason is been balanced...
and as Zildoggo wrote is also graet way(if your pc is strong)...
i just build the loop that i want in the reason--the sound i make in an edit program(any one that you like-forge-cooledit-wavelab)or even in the sx... |
