Hey gang,
I'm running sx 2.2.033 on a windows xp based Pentium Prescott 3.0E with 2 gb ram and an asus mobo.
well, this system im using here isnt brand spanking new, but it is new to music. everything was runinng fine for a couple of months...i installed a couple of plugins, and that was it...all of a sudden, and without warning, it seems like things changed.
it seems that no matter what audio card i try to play my sequences out onto now, they tend to skip around like mad. automation off, on, effects, doesnt matter. its getting to the point where i cant really work on anything. i 'optimized' my system for audio like so:
http://www.digitalproducer.com/2002/11_nov/features/11_04/optimize_pcaudio.htm)
and i also did the requisite anivirus antispyware registry cleaning circle jerk that I do every so often, but to little avail...
does this problem sound familiar to anyone??
im only assuming im not the only person this is happening to...and i also figure this is as good a place as any to post my query...
thanks!

Olimpias, I have yet to switch to SX3l, and probably wont until it gets its kinks worked out. But thanks for your support.
I'm sorry, I dont know if I was clear what I meant by Prescott Core 3.0E, I meant, a Pentium IV processor with hyperthreasding that works at 3 gigahertz and overclocks to 3.6 more or less...but it runs really, really, really, hot which forced me to make an innovative case solution. PC's still have yet to really break beyond the 3-4 ghz barrier established about a 20 or so months ago when I built thing, and one of the reasons is that new cores, like the prescott, run too hot. Its old, already, but its a beast, and can shred video, so my problem is definitely NOT the machine.
So, again, if anyone here actually has had this audio skipping issue, please help!! Or, if anyone knows where I can find producers with sx 2.2/windows xp and maybe even p4/intel environments who know what the hell is going on with my shizzie, please let me know!! |

I'd say check your irq settings in the device manager of windows. (dev manager->view->ressources by type->interrupt request)
Look out if you are sharing IRQ's, especially for your soundcard and your video device. If sharing occurs, move one of your pci cards (preferably) audio card to a free slot, start up your computer again and check back if the irq changed.
You can also disable some unused devices of your motherboard in bios. This results in more assignable irq's.
Hope that helps so far, sorry if your problem is different.
Also be sure to use a dedicated asio driver, which comes with your soundcard. If it is a cheap soundcard with no native asio support, you might wanna check out asio4all (google it)

Thanks, sideFXed and Colin.
Negative on the IRQ conflicts. I have downloaded ASIO 4ALL, though, for whatever WDM machiens I have, it seems like a genius piece of software. thanks a lot for the referral, side.
and colin, thats a pretty slick idea. i will try that now. do you know, by any chance, of any sort of list of 'problem' vsts or known vst conflicts i could check out? anything anecdotal in your experience of combinations of vsts that cause problems in sx 2.2 under WinXP? |
