hi guys ,
i hope all u ppl r doing 5n
i just wanted to know guys that what is the difference quality wise if i process audio files in cubase other than if i would apply fx thru mixer on those channels ???
i mean like lets say i have piano trk ....
i "process" it with eq...
i apply eq plugin as fx on that channel in mixer ...
what is the difference quality wise ??
other than me saving valuable cpu power

only one major difference that i can think of
if you are applying a destructive FX to an audiofile, then the output will necessarily be dithered back to the bitrate/samplerate of that audio file (24bit/44.1khz in my case).
Whereas if you a using a plugin in the mixer, the processing will occur at 32 bit floating point, and nuendo's entire signal path is 32 bit, and it will only get dithered (to your soundcard driver's settings) after the final master fx + master fader.
Not a big deal in practice I must say... always bounce or record to 32 bit audio if you're really bothered, then there will be no difference.

It depends 100% on the plugin : if the plugin supports 32 bit audio then no dithering need occur (except possibly when the entire tune leaves cubase as always). So the quality of the audio signal will be preserved....
On the other hand, sticking with eq as an example, you'll gain an increase in quality by using decent eq plugins cos the cubase eq is not reckoned to be very good.
The only advantages to using cubase eq are cpu load and the bother of having to search your plugin menu for your favourite eq plugin.....
