im having problems recording anything (no signal) from my computer to cubase/soundforge. i know there is something in the setting that needs to be done and im not doing right. mic works fine, so i know its not a recording problem. its very confusing to me... i would like to play a dvd on the computer and press record on cubase and
"rip" the samples that way... simple request no?
i have 2, 1/4" cables from outputs 3 and 4 into inputs 1 and 2 and still get nothing.. what am i doing wrong? m-audio said that this is a cubase/soundforge config. issue and they do not do a step by step for that.
can anyone guide me on what i should be doing inside cubase and soundforge? maybe its something in the player im using to play the dvd's? maybe something in the control panel? im clueless... please assist.
im using sx2.2 with m-audio fw410.

hi
i have the same prob with rme multiface.
i dont know the solution but what i do is to connect the main out of the sound card (where the dvd sound is coming out) to the in of the soundcard were i frequently plug my synths. the problmen is that you have to use the phones to listen what you want to record because you'll not hear what coming from the main out.

other thing is that this issue only happens with better quality soundcards(i dont know why) because with even with crepy soundcards like creative live you can record anything anywere. and this s strange to me.

Another problem is that i cant run more than one program that is using asio driver. anyone know if there is an multiprogram driver? i.e- runing Logic & soundforge or soundforge&winamp

So.. if you realy need it urgently the way i toldyou works just fine. the problem is that the sound will be degradated by the analogue connection.

btw check also in the control panel/sound/ and ccheck what device you have for playback and recording.

and you can change the sound card driver in control panel to the other one to make that by old way..

hope it helped

Here's a couple of suggestions for you... First thing that strikes as odd is that your mic works but you can't record anything.

1. Are you able to plug in the outputs of your 410 to a set of speakers/amp and hear the movie through that?

If the answer is yes, unplug your microphone and press the little button that says line/mic on it. This will switch the input from the mic input to a line input.

Secondly in Soundforge, if you are recording with it, you need to make sure that the channels you are recording into are selected. You should be able to determine this by clicking on the record button and it will bring up a smaller screen where you can select your recording inputs.

The only other suggestions I would make would be to either a. hook up a normal dvd player to the inputs of you FW410 or
b. http://www.glump.net/content/audio_dvd_rip/guide.htm

With that, you can totally bypass using your soundcard at all. (You can get the audio in it's purest form this way.)           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Start the DVD playing. Open soundforge and press CTRL+R to pop up the recording dialog. Before hitting record there is a drop down menu called Device:. Click there and select the m-audio monitor mixer (In my sound card it is called M-Audio Delta 1010LT Mon. Mixer). Your m-audio has to have the same thing, or something similar. After you have selected this, if you do not see the uv meters showing any signal then there is a problem, or maybe something else you need to do. I don't know the exact process as I do not own a DVD-player.

good luck           http://triplex.trance.net
