I'm using SX3 with a Intel Q6600 and 4gb of ram. Cubase has a habit of gradually slowing down in performance the more work I do until I restart it...As soon as I do, no matter how big the project, it works blazingly fast for another forty minutes or so...Is there anything I can do to remedy this?

Delete BPM automation.           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

Ok, since no one has a serious answer..

Used to happen to me on my old comp with Acid. Every time I would overload it and it would start getting glitchy it would start to slow down the tempo instead of acting like a stream that doesn't buffer properly.

Try messing with your latency settings.           You believe in the users?

or maybe something with your virtual memory or ram.... to me it sound like it loading shit into your chace memory or something like that and just keep collecting it until it`s jammed....
or maybe not...?

well i dont know that one but sounds decent ... try another sound card to make sure its not the soundcard which is the problem .... u have to shortlist all possibilities like this ... in this case i wud start wit sound card .

and honestly i have no clue wat is the ideal latency if sumone cud throw in sum light ... i just try n set it so it works fine ... i think the lesser the latency the more cpu usage and more latency less cpu usage ... maybe u shud try playing with those setting first

Are you using Sylenth1 by chance? There was a memory leak found recently in the GUI that causes the RAM to not be released each time you open Sylenth1's interface. So eventually it just fills up your RAM.

Just thought I'd throw that out there in case you happen to be using it.

In general is sounds like a plugin you are using has a memory leak...watch your ram usage while performing operations you normally do, you may be able to find the culprit that way.
