I just got a new PC, and Cakewalk 9 isn't cutting it anymore. It seems like copy protection has come a long way and I'm gonna actually have to shell out some cash for Cubase. Problem is, Cubase SX costs a crapload of money that I don't have. SL, however, is a bit more affordable. As far as I can tell it looks like SX is a pretty good package. Is there anything important I'll be missing out on by getting SL instead of SX?
Also, does anyone know if I'll run into any problems installing an English version of Cubase on Japanese WinXP? I doubt it'll be a problem but just want to make sure. |

yes, u'll be missing all those features we never even use!! Cubase SL will be more then enough for all but the most demanding producer... U don't need image-editing and fancy shit like that... just an endless amount of miditracks (and the ability to use all the features of midi), audiotracks, vst-support, and some handy features like the tempo-track (which isn't present in cubase SL, but cubase SL has another tool that does the same if i'm not mistaken).
Cubase and logic did have the very very bad habbit of making cheaper versions of they're software with a fixed amount of audio-tracks/midi-tracks (which i don't understand as a computer-programmer, cuz like that they actually have to add code (work more) to achieve this... and it actually shows that they can sell much cheaper if they wanted, losing features is easy, just delete the right files in the programme and don't compile them, but to make a limit on something u have to code it in ur programme that he has to count and disable the feature when he reached the maximum number), but i hope that they don't do that anymore with their recent cheap-end products. |

You could also get Sonar 4.
Anyway, does Cubase SL have the freeze function? That would be a major reason to choose SX. And how about the drag&drop time stretching stuff? Very usefull.
