Hi everybody,
I'm trying to climb my way from reason to cubase, and as u probably know when you're used to a program it's hard to do all over again on another one,so my question is:
how do usually setup cubase?
do u work first on a given instrument or do u throw lot's o' midi tracks and build from there?
i wish cubase had a rack u know...
i'm a bit confused right now
thanx in advance |

well I'd recommend you to start with some basic midi sequencing.
go to preferences/transport and check "return to start position on stop"
load up your asio driver in device setup and set it to a decent latency <20ms
load up a nice vst (imo albino is unbeatable, I prefer midi learn enabled synths - the cubase standard ones don't have that)
get some nice psy patches: http://www.cosmosis.co.uk/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=27&Itemid=48
open up a midi channel, link it to the vst and check out the different time signatures:
good time signatures are 1/16 or 1/16 triplets (obvious there's lots more)
some shortcuts will ease your life:
ctrl c/x/v are , ctrl-d is good for fast copy paste of done sequences or notes.
get a good sampler for starters: battery2 or fxpansion will do a nice job and isn't too hard to learn. maybe someone can recommend a free one.
learn how to use automation (hint: r and w buttons on the midi channel -midi learn enabled synths- or on the vst channel -generic remote gear-)
learn how to group channels, and the whole magic about fx channels -to save cpu-
you'll love the program, I promise
hope that helps for starters
check out isratrance/google for lots of tutorials
you'll produce soon like the pros, this forum will help

first thing i always do after reinstalling Cubase is binding keys. IMHO Reason has big minus - no key binds, all editing has to be done with mouse. As for habbits - i think you need a months to get used to Cubase and forget about rack=)

To add group tracks just right click on a midi channel & select "add group channel track".
Then you just send the midi or audio track to that group.
For loading patches in albino press the disk icon next to where you browe presets & select load instrument.
