Cubase Save As Default Settings?

I just purchased a new soundcard (Motu 828 MkII USB) I just needed more inputs for recording, my last card only had 2!

My sound comes via a DAC from the SPDIF output of the card, so I'm not interested in the quality of the card itself.

Equally, being as this is just a hobby, the ADCs are fine for my needs, I don't need a Prism Orpheus just yet.

Anyway, my issue. Whenever I start a new project in Cubase the sound outputs default to 1+2, not SPDIF. So I get no sound until I change that.

Then - after diligently adding and naming all of the inputs and outputs in the VST connections screen, for selecting the appropriate recording input for a track, they need to be put back in each program restart - I saved a template, but I still have to go and activate the template every session.

I'm seriously thinking about sending this card back, the midi latency is around 15ms (pretty high I think) and the sync seems to fail most of the time in the ASIO test.

edit:

Just remembered another problem with this card.

Say I'm working at 48khz in Cubase, if I then minimise the application, play an Mp3, or browse the internet and watch a video with sound. When I return to the sequencer, the sample rate is totally wrong. I have to restart Cubase to get it to reset the sample rate (the reset button in Devices does nothing)

Previously my old faithful M Audio card, I could do anything, return to my project and it would play fine.

'Release Asio driver in background' seems to do nothing either.

yesah send it back and get a FW-version if this is still possible. the latest 828 have good usercomments, the usb-version is more often reported troublesome, although its also a lot cheaper then the fw.

Ignore my original post.

I don't want to start a new thread..

I'm 2 steps away from sending this 828 back as I sent a question to MOTU a week ago and they haven't even read it yet according to their handy 'tech link' page.

Anyone tried the Focusrite Saffire 10/10? Tinking of swapping to that.
