So guys one thing that has kept me from cubase all these years is the midi handling. I like to leave all my synths in midi so that I can change whatever automations or parameters I want throughout the song.

I read that most people like cubase most for the offline processing. So when you get a loop how you want I'm guessing you bounce it to wav and then put it in the track? What do you do with your midi data? just save it and mute the midi tracks? I'm just curious how some of you go about creating your tracks in cubase.

Thanks, Cheers           http://www.youtube.com/user/trawhi (tutorials)

It depends on the power of your pc. I got a fairly powerful pc and I never bounce midi unless I want to do some audio editing. If you are running on maximum cpu it is good to bounce or freeze stuff you are happy with. Freezing could be a good option for you because you can always unfreeze it.

And save your project under different versions so you can always go back to the midi data if you are not satisfied with the bounced result. For example start with a trackname "like smells_like_teen_spirit_01" than rename it to "like smells_like_teen_spirit_01-01", "like smells_like_teen_spirit_01-02" etc.

Supergroover is right, it depends on the power of machine.

I always use midi and never bounce until the track is ready for final mix/mastering.

Offline procesing is where you can add effects and procesing to a file using a vst plugin/effect without having the effect/processor taking up cpu as you add it "offline".

check my video out which explains it very well.

WHen i used to have to bounce tracks i would bounce the audio, then create a folder in Cubase called "Midi backup" then put all the channels with midi which i had bounced into that, turn off the vsts/effects on that channel and leave it in ther in case i had to change soemthing later in the production.

hope this helps,

Mark

yeah all thats a waste of time. im runnin quads amd @ 3.21 w/ 4gb high performance memory. only run into memory issues when using large kontakt based stuff like akkoustik piano/VSL

some vst just take crazy cpu though so i will bounce in those cases.          http://www.youtube.com/user/trawhi (tutorials)

I have a muted folder track at the bottom of the arrangement called 'Bounced Down'. Whenever I render a MIDI track, it ends up in here, muted/deactivated and with all plugins disabled.

What's the difference between exporting as wave file or bouncing?
